Beautiful thanks. I would love to discover something like that.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

I think the gaff roulette wheel is intriguing. While over the years I have seen gaffs played against roulette wheels in order to beat the house I have never actually seen a gaffed wheel in action to beat the players.

Interestingly, when I was a very young man learning how to deal craps and 21, I worked for about three months at a small casino in downtown Vegas. At that time, the casino manager and floor men in this joint were all hustlers, guys who had been cheating and stealing all their lives. It did not take me long to figure out they were busting out on the Blackjack games and also occasionally on the craps. One of the floor men, an old time thief from the west, told me that if they put in a gaff roulette wheel, he would teach me how to deal it.

As I say, I left after about three months as I could see no future in being in downtown Vegas and moved out to the strip where there we more legitimate opportunities. However, I did learn a lot while I was there...believe me when I say a much different learning experience than books and DVDs could teach. (The joint in question was shut down shortly thereafter by Nevada Gaming, different management took over and the name was changed. Today it is just another downtown slot joint.)

I learned a lot while I was there and many years thereafter, but regretfully never actually learned how to deal the gaffed wheel. Probably better that way as the days of "whacking out," i.e., busting out the players, was coming to an end. Even the crooks finally figured out that "dealing on the square" was more lucrative in the long run than cheating the players, although perhaps not as exciting or as much fun. Smile

Thereafter, as the years passed, more and more of the big money was made in beating the casinos rather than the players. That is why the joints have invested so much in protecting their bankroll with video surveillance, seminars, gambling conferences and so forth.

However, looking back some of these old time gaffs were not only ingenious but fascinating to see and learn about.
