I was reading that some of you use apples as treats for your rabbits. Well, it turns out, Beans likes apples too. Has anyone tried dehydrating apple slices? They would store longer and would be easy to carry with me. Also, I have been giving her Gala apples because that's what I like to eat but do they like other kinds? Say, specificly, the cheap Red Delicous I can get in the big bag?

Bunnies like most fresh fruit, I haven't tried dried. But remember that apples are not a great source of fiber for a rabbit so always have Timothy Hay and water available. Add the correct amount of pellets for your size Lapin and then let it have some fruits and veggies.
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

I was wanting to use the apples as treats. Since it took more then 5 minutes to get a responce (my attention span) I dried an apple and she eat the one chip I gave her up. So, I figure she likes it. Timothy hay. Ha, I think Beans would kill for Timothy hay. I have to fill the hay bowl atleast twice a day. How do you figure how many pellets they should have? I just keep her pellet feeder full. Thanks for your responce.

Check out the House Rabbits Society for full info, but
here is a bit from the rabbit diet page. What quantities of food should I feed babies and "teenagers"? Birth to 3 weeks--mother's milk 3 to 4 weeks--mother's milk, nibbles of alfalfa and pellets 4 to 7 weeks--mother's milk, access to alfalfa and pellets 7 weeks to 7 months--unlimited pellets, unlimited hay (plus see 12 weeks below) 12 weeks--introduce vegetables (one at a time, quantities under 1/2 oz.) What quantities of food should I feed young adults? (7 months to 1 year) introduce timothy hay, grass hay, and oat hays, decrease alfalfa decrease pellets to 1/2 cup per 6 lbs. body weight increase daily vegetables gradually fruit daily ration no more than 1 oz. to 2 oz. per 6 lbs. body weight (because of calories) http://www.rabbit.org Happy Hopping!

HI,
Too much fruit is not good for bunnies particularly true netherland dwarfs. do not be confused by what bunnies like and what is good for them. they like Grahams crackers,bread/toast, rich tea buiscuts and many things like this but please only as a very rear treat Phillip |

Thanks

I don't know about coastal hay, but Kay-tee Timothy hay is available in most pet stores. I.e. Pet Supplies Plus. It is not cheap considering it is a bag of common grass, but it has nutritional info so you may compare it to coastal hay. Avoid large quantities of Alfalfa hay or other high protein feed. Also check out the other threads about rabbit care.

Ten four on the Timothy hay.....mine is loving pellets now..he laid off for a while when I first got him and stuck to the coastal hay.
Trying to get him to eat carrots, he won't touch them. Will try other veggies. Thanks

A little apple is good for them once in a while. Just make sure to cut any and all seeds out first. They are dangerous for rabbits.

Rabbits do love apples.
In fact that is the first thing my rabbit will go for given several choices. Be careful not to give your rabbit too much. It will make it FAT.

Thanks to Bob, my rabbit now eats carrots. The secret is to feed him the carrots with tops first.
