Hi all...
Thought I would add a few effects to my act..that is done with music...Firstly I have bought micame magic mirror which I am very happy with...and I have also bought losanders version of Zombie... now I have started practising and am finding my fingers are really finding it hard *to keep the ball floating* the ball seems to get heavier and heavier. Do I need to start finger exercises to strengthen them.. or is it me ?? Any help would be gratefully received... Chris Knight |

It is a matter of practice and getting your fingers and arms used to being in that position. Just like any new routine etc. our fingers and body are not used to being used like that and have to be warmed up and built up.
I always do finger and arm exercises for my manipulative routines. It helps keep them limber and builds up strength as well. Kyle

Chris:
I do mainly card and billard ball manipulation so my exercises usually stem from that. I first stretch out my fingers and bend them back indivually. Get them stretched out like you would your arms or legs before running. I then take a deck of cards or a billiard ball and run it in my hands and between my finegsr just getting the hands and fingers warmed up and to room temperature. The idea is to get the hand and fingers used to being in the positions they need to be in. You would be amazed at how much just a ball in the hands can make to how nimble you can become. Then I would pick up the zombie and just get used to holding it with the fingers. I would even do this while watching TV etc. This will build strength and get your fingers used to what they need to do. Kyle

Hey Chris,
You can get a "finger strengthener" at your local music store that guitarists use to build muscle in each finger. They are effective and you can use it while sitting around and driving, etc. YOu might also want to reference Vito Lupo lecture notes from a few years ago. I saw his lecture in the mid 80's and he had a series of great finger, wrist, hand flexes and excercises! -Ed

Hey thanks for that guys... I don't know, the pain we go through for our art !! By the way I highly recommend Losanders Zombie..the video is fairly short...but saying that he does cover everything you need to know to perform a fantastic routine... he makes it look so bloody easy !!!
Ah well back to the finger exercising...and lift and bend...and lift and stretch....and...... !! Chris. |
