Hello my name is keith.. I am a retired NYC firefighter and a Dr. of physiotherapy.. I used to do some magic as a young man but mostly standard effects.. I recently lost the thumb of my dominant hand and needed some dexterity exercises to increase agility in my non dominant hand and improve movement and ability in my thumbless dominant hand.. I thought a return to magic and some sleight of hand might make the agility/ability exercises much more interesting.. so here I am.. any help or information would be GREATLY appreciated.. no thumb tip tricks please lol..

Welcome kkaiser343,
Very sorry to hear about the loss of your thumb. I think figuring out how to make standard Rubber Band tricks work for you might be good. I don't know whether this will work or not. I think your professional experience could tell you if that is a good direction. Best of luck! -Mary Mowder |

I just tried a double l. using the index and middle finger of my right hand and a first knuckle of my middle finger strike. It worked fine. This would be easier if you could do a double L. before you were hurt and depends on how much use you have of your damaged hand.
Are you right handed and do you still have the thumb metacarpal and the muscles in the Abductor pollicis brevis area? Are they attached at both ends so that you could use them as an "inner opposable thumb"? If so you can do a modified Hindu S. You have a big challenge but keep this in mind. Rene Lavand had only one arm. (I'm trying to be helpful, not Pollyanna, sorry if it comes off like that.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHU1JGEisS0 -Mary Mowder |

Hello Mary ..it is all good.. thanks for the welcome.. great you tube clip.. the magic I did was years ago and never any decent sleight of hand so I need to start at the beginning and do some work.. sounds like you have some medical training or at least a great grasp of hand anatomy..
