Hello Simon.
I really need some help- I am looking for funny stunts and gags that look amazing and are funny at the same time with no "Big" magic trick secrets. Example of such: The vanishing head with the paper bag mac king did on TV's "Best of magic" etc.. The audience know how the stunt works but at the same time amazed and entertained by it. I know there is a stunt called "The twisting head" done with a paper bag - I will be very happy if someone can provide me with a place, site or whatever where I can learn that gag and others as such. I want the audience to know how the funny stunt is done but to be amazed by it(that is why I do not use magic tricks with a "secret") I will appreciate any information that can be provided. Thank, IS |

I know...
But I am talking about stunts such as the old "Rubber pencil" illusion etc. They "know" how it works, still amazed by the illusion or effect it makes. Thanks, Itay |

Actually, and I hope this isn't too self serving, a look at Fantasma's professor Wow boxes will help. Designed by Mark Setaducatti and written by me they are scientific magic tricks. First you show them a wow then you tell them how.
A look through Martin Gardners wonderful Encyclodia of Impromptu Magic will yeild a mother-lode of stuff for you too! |

Mac King talks a bit about that bag trick in his book. Check it out if you are interested in it.

Yep Tricks With Your Head (or something like that) is an inexpensive paper back with some fun stuff.

The mac king "Tricks with your head" book does not include that paper bag effect.
By the way, Where can I find that trick (vanishing head stunt with a paper bag) and the twisting head gag/stunt also done with a paper bag (not the one sold in magic store)? Also , if you have any more such ideas for stunt/gags, please name them and the source so I can go and learn. I got the Impromptu book (so good!) and really seek for more ideas on such stunts and gags that are not really "magical" but amazing by the idea only (like the well known stretching arm, rubber pencil etc.) ? Thanks again, IS |

I did not know that it was his own "trademark effect "(and I did not do it anyway)
I am looking for "public" effects, not "trademark effects". If you have any ideas I will appreciate your help. And thanks for the reminder (for every one) to keep their material "clean" and "unique and to avoid taking "trademark effects" from others. Thanks again, IS |

I'd expand that to avoid taking anything from anybody else!

Simon,
Surely your old Party Animal video might have something in the stunt region that might help here? Or are you being too modest? Ian |

I agree with Wakeman... it is part of Mac King's act, therefore IT IS NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN.
And why would you want to do something someone else is doing anyway?

Actually Ian I'd completely forgotten about it though it is more gags than anything there may be a few bits there. Although made about 15 years ago it has been re-released by L&L so is readily available Thanks for the reminder!

Pete,
Not sure why anyone would want to use the paper bag over the head but if you are going to throw out anything that another magician is doing, there will not be many magic acts. |

It is not the tricks but the style, the presentation and the performance that can't be lifted!
