Mary,
After reading your post concerning names, I came across this. In a book called The English Minstrel, there was a female entertainer from around 1300 named Mary Makejoy. She was an acrobat known for balancing herself on two swords, which judging by illuminations over a period of several centuries was a feat commonly performed by female acrobats. Something to add to your show? Yes, I am still working on the name. Note: This is a follow up to my introduction post; hence the reason it is here. |

Yipes!
I gave up unicycling and slack rope walking for card tricks because of the safety factors. "Something to add to your show?" I don't think so. Are you harboring a grudge about the things I said about your name? LOL -Mary Mowder |

Me, hold a grudge?
Never against someone as nice as you. (Yes, I don't know you that well--LOL!) As for balancing on swords, as a naturally big person, I am pretty sure that if I tried such a thing--even with blunt or ball peen ends--that I would be skewered! As for dangerous feats, I have thought about fire eating--thought being the operative word! But as I like tasting food, and am not particularly fond of ingesting petroleum products, I have decided not to explore that endeavor. More seriously, I developed severe respiratory problems earlier this year (I would as an archivist and handle lots of old musty, moldy, and dusty documents), and though I have largely (but not entirely)recovered, I absolutely want to do nothing that will endanger my ability to breath. As for names, here's one I like--Henricus Magicus--which translated essentially means "Magical Henry." Yeah, the English translation is not so great, so for non-medieval acts maybe Hokum Henry (or Henry Hokum). Now that does have a ring to it! |

Read "work" instead of "would"

Now say the Magic word, Hocum Pokus.
Reminds me of a Limerick I once wrote. There once was a craven young Joker Sought to jest with the Queen with a poker He called from the pit It may have lacked wit But at least you could say that it woke her -Mary |

Hocum Pokus--now that has possibilities.
