Bare
Creator: The Other Brothers Publisher: MSRP: $ 35 Skill Level: All DVD Run time: 35 minutes Type of effect: Manufacturer's Write Up: In what is destined to become the go-to trick for professionals around the globe, Bare generates screams, gasps, and reactions like no other trick we know. This special, hand-altered Sharpie marker allows you to cause ANY card, initials, number, or simple shape to appear ON A SPECTATOR'S HAND. They hold out a hand, palm down, and you gently sprinkle salt, pepper, coffee grinds, or sand on their hand. By rubbing their hand gently, their thought-of shape APPEARS on their own hand. The Bare Sharpie allows you to invisibly write or draw anything on YOUR hand, which you easily and imperceptibly transfer onto their hand. The best part? It has no scent or stickiness, and can be easily wiped away after the performance. This is a hygienic, "neat" version of the "Ashes on Arm" trick -- it doesn't endanger a spectator's clothing or look "dirty." How accurate is the ad copy? Wonderfully accurate, they really tell you what this effect is – very clearly. What's in the box? Gimmick pen and download code Key points: The pen lasts for hundreds of performances, and is disguised inside a real Sharpie marker. Includes download link for full video performance and explanation. Easy to perform. How are the production values: It’s chiefly the other brothers sitting in a living room on a couch talking to a stationary camera. Is it well made: This is made to look like a real sharpie marker. Is it well taught: the other brothers are fun teachers and I think they always try to give you as much as you can. Storage? Does it "pack flat?" This effect packs the same as a standard sharpie and your “set up” is mostly pre-show work. Does it "play big?" The ash effect always plays well if done well Difficulty / Skill level required: Super easy – no sleights or difficult moves. You will need to practice a bit with different substances for the reveal. How much arts and crafts are involved? You need to be able to write backwards (in mirror image) How practical is this in the real world? (can it really be done?) Yes, this is great for strolling and street magic. Overall score: let's toss out the traditional score of 1-10 and make this something that we all can appreciate and understand. ___X__ Very Satisfied _____ Somewhat Satisfied _____ Neither Satisfied or Dissatisfied _____ Somewhat Dissatisfied _____ Very Dissatisfied _____ No Opinion My thoughts this definitely moves the ashes effect into the 20th century. + Hey do you want to see my full review with even more of my opinions and ideas? I finally got a chance to look at this earlier this week. Glad I ordered it, seems like one I will use regularly.
One thing I was surprised that wasn't on the video was... what chemicals are used in the product? I'm hoping they did the research and nothing harmful to worry about, but no mention that I recall on it. I'd hate someone to have a reaction to the pen. I know there are people out there with very sensitive skin. Should I be concerned? With the little I've played around with it, it hasn't been an issue, but would like to know if this has been researched? |

Hi guys! So I purchased bare and it absolutely lives up to my expectations but it's the first purchase I've made that isn't a stand alone trick or routine. I've run into some issues because of this.
Basically, I get that you can perform anywhere that there's pepper etc, but what's the justification? Even in the video given by the Other Brothers it's just a bit random to suddenly go 'watch what I can do with this pepper'. There's no logical reason to start pouring pepper on someone's hand to reveal, so I started to experiment with other materials. I'm currently living near the beach so a lot of my thought has gone into sand. It also provides a more sensical reveal as you can have people dip their hands into the beach rather than pour it. However I'm struggling to connect the logic of using a granular product to revealing a card. What have you guys been doing? I'm starting to think Bare's best uses are not to do with revealing cards at all, but revealing other information in a more supernatural manner. |

One that is a little cooky is I say my grandpa was a magician, and then I give this story about the tricks he would do. Then I pull out an urn of ashes, and say this is grandpa's last trick. It gets crazy good reactions, little strange but I really like it especially for like a parlor show.

The "ink" in my bare pen has become more blue over time and is easier to see with the naked eye, particularly if written on paper. Anyone else noticed this?

Hmm - just curious if others are experiencing this also. To be honest, I bought this when it came out and COMPLETELY forgot about it - in fact, just found it in the back of my closet. I should bust it out and try it as well to see if the ink has gone blue even though it has yet to be exposed to air.

Has anyone tried this in cold weather? Does it work just as well?
Thinking of getting one for a few Halloween shows. Thanks! |

Product description : This seems to be the most talk about trick of early 2017, I remember being at Black and being fooled very badly by this ! The basic idea is very simple : it’s an ash pen that you can “use” on a spectator arm ! You draw anything you want on your palm and you can transfer it onto the spectator arm or any area of their body you can access ! This sums up pretty well what you can do with it, which is almost everything. But is it good ? Does it work as advertised ? Let’s find out !
Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $35 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's magic « partner » shop ! What you get : You get a small cardboard box, the same which is provided with “Sentio” by Alan Rorrisson. It’s a nice packaging, very well made ! Inside, you’ll find the gimmick, it is disguised as a regular Sharpie, so you can switch it in and out very easily. I can’t tell you what’s inside because I don’t know what is inside but it seems to be some kind of glue/chap stick material. You also get a link to watch an explanation video, it’s well made, well shot and you learn some basics routines. I deeply think that you will come with better on your own. Overall, for the price, I’m really happy with my purchase, it seems to work well and you get enough for hundreds and hundreds of performances. Teaser : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0fBfFfvr2E The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end. THE CONS : – You have to write kind of in a mirror way on your hand because you will stamp your spectator so it will be reversed. – It’s a little bit expensive considering what it is. THE PROS : – I’ve always loved the Ash Pen routine but it was dirty to do it with ash and I didn’t like the fact to do it on my arm, it looks suspicious to me. Now you can use almost anything and you can do it on your spectator arm. – You can use any “powder” type thing : salt, sugar, pepper, coffee, flour etc.. So you can really adapt your presentation, whether it’s taking a little bit of salt off the table or playing with flour and maybe pretending it’s drug (a presentation which would suit best to Mr. Stone). – You can do it on the fly or preparing it a long time before, you get a 3 hours delay between the moment you write on your hand and the moment you stamp your spectator. – There is no residue whatsoever, you and your spectator end clean. – You can also use it on card if you want so you can reveal anything on playing cards. – There are a lot of things you can do with Bare, don’t only use the “forced card” presentation, you can reveal numbers, initials. Even combining it with a peek could be awesome. – It’s something which happens in the spectator hands ! Magic is always more impressive when it’s done in the spectator hands so this is perfect. – It’s very easy to do, you just have to learn how to properly stamp your audience but it’s fairly easy ! Overall rating : I love it, it’s something as good as Double Cross in my opinion because it uses nothing but a little bit of salt and the spectator hand, what do you want more ? , 4/4 hearts. As for the difficulty level, stamping and mirror writing are really easy, I would say 2/5 stars. Similar products : Ash Pen is a classic close up routine but Bare brings it to another level.
