It was still a blustery day when we go the news that grandmother has passed on.
We were sad, but not too, as she had lived a good 94 years. I know I was a bit nervous, having never attended an open casket service, but I was determined to do something nice for her, so I did the flowers. The local service picked her up at the airport and took her to the chapel for service, and it was there, on one of the first nice days in months, as I was putting the final flowers onto the topp of the casket, I saw it. I think she was happy to be home, she was smiling, slightly. I finished the orchids, in the color she so loved, and turned to put the corsage in her hands, and then I looked, and looked again, her lips shifted slightly, and I could have sworn she was smiling even more now. My final touch was to place a journal diary and a pen inside the casket with her, she so loved to write her stories of travels and the adventures she had. Wait! THERE IT WAS AGAIN, SHE WAS SMILING EVEN MORE NOW, or so it seemed!. I was not going to take any pictures, that would be rude, but I know what I saw, at least I think I saw.......... I suppose it could have been post mortem muscle shrinkage, or something else explained away by science, but I prefer to think she was happy to be home. If I werre doing this as an effect, I might be using a photo that changes two or three times, perhaps her going home to her childhood, or her beloved husband appearing beside her in the image. I might even have a pen move, and words appear on a page in violet or pink ink. However I develop this as an effect, it is based upon my observations of two weeks ago! Just thought I would share and see where it leads!

KayTracy,
Sorry for your grandma. In the other hand, I would love to see someone telling the story that you just told above, with the additional “magical” enfasis. I enjoyed reading it in the way ypu wrote it. Since it happened to you, was totally believable. Maybe if you use the photos in a more subtle way, showing the first picture and then how the smile gets bigger... I mean, trying to communicate the exact feeling your story transmits... I like it... Obvoiously I was thinking on take pictures from another old lady, exactly in the way you want them... |

You know, as much as I too think that there must be some way to explain this in some scientific perspective, I still want to believe in the story you just shared. Whatever the reason was, it is uplifting.
Turning this story into a magic effect could prove to be difficult. Not in method but in presentation. If there is one subject for wich people have mixed feelings, it is death. On the other hand, having experienced it first hand may enable you to convey that story so dramatically that your audience will have to want to believe in it as much as we did (Hope that made sense). If you ever perform this, please let us know how people reacted. And I am truly sorry for your loss. Richard

Thank you alll for the kind thoughts-I share them all sith Tory(Twas her grandmother in fact, mine by choise), the main thing that amazed me , was how I ended up dealing with it!) I truly have not been to any funerals before, work or time or distance has plotted against me, and to have the first one be an open casket made me a bit unsettled at first, but I think the observation, and how oddly at ease I was with it, allowed me the chance to consider sharing the idea, and the potential for a gentle, yet still bizarre expression-she did rather enjoy the bits of magic we shared wtih her.
I do not think she would be offended at all! She enjoyed participating in life, and, at the risk of sounding...odd! I think she will enjoy that she is included in some of our magic that we do. I am looking at the photo change route, and propbably something with appearing writing. To understand that she took pictures everywhere she went (probably over 100 albums in that little house) and that she wrote her journal/diary and other stories daily, the two combined seem to work for her, or an effect based upon her. And as a person who enjoys Bizarre Magick, I see it as my duty to have people question their thoughts and themselves-though even occasionally their beleifs (but not in a bad way!)
