I have no clue where to post this? Does anyone know if there is a way to download/upload (im not computer literate) videos that are purchased from the magic sites to my computer for viewing later? I'm afraid the instructions might go away after a couple years and I won't have instructions. I got burned on the whole Peter Pellikaan website and can not find him anywhere to ask about the online videos I purchased. His effects are amazing! Vanishinginc said they do not have contact with him. Huh? They sell his products! Anyways, this isn't a thread to rag on those guys. Is there a way to save purchased instructional videos to my computer or Ipad from the big magic dealers? Thank you for any help. db

Dollarbill,
Great question. I am a bit obsessive so I download my purchased digital content and save them to a cloud storage service (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc). Since storage space has gotten less expensive it is a very effective way to view content across any device. It's tedious, but worthwhile for me. As another aside, I have learned to save the document password (for password protected files) as the title. I still cannot access works I have from Thomas Baxter, because I did not save the password. Now I save them like this: Ebooktitle_password I never forget now. |

Newer versions of RealPlayer include an option to download streaming online videos (hover the cursor over the video and a pop-up appears providing a download option). It works for most videos, although some are specifically set up by the owner to disallow anything other than streaming. I hope this helps.

Everything download I have bought from Vanishing Inc always gives me the option to download to my computer, plus they are always there in my account with that site.

Dealing and retailing magic downloads for almost two decades here are a few pointers:
1) At Lybrary.com, the longest running magic download retailer in the world, you have always download access to all your purchases via your digital shelf. I can't guarantee that Lybrary.com will exist forever, but at least for the last two decades it has and it most likely will exist at least for another 2-3 decades. I have customers who purchased literally 17 years ago, now had a computer crash and lost all their ebooks. They only needed to login to their Lybrary account and could download all their purchases. In other words, Lybrary.com automatically saves your purchases in the cloud without any action from you, and you can download them as often as you wish. 2) You can never have too many backups. I suggest you buy an external USB hard drive, they are very cheap these days, and periodically save your most important files there. I even suggest you buy a new hard drive every two years. Label it with the year and keep it. Eventually you will have a series of backups. Should your latest drive fail or should some files be unreadable, you can go back to the next most recent and at least have the majority of your files available there. 3) For more frequent and smaller backups I suggest a USB flash memory drive. These are also handy to carry around or for travelling. Depending on the size of your collection you will perhaps not be able to fit everything on the USB flash memory, but you can have the most important works, and the ones you are currently reading, and all new purchases. This way you are creating several layers of defense against data loss. And it is not really hard to do once you make a habit of it. There is even software which allows you to automate these tasks. I can recommend Arctor which I have been using for years. The primary advantage of Arctor over all other backup software I have tested is that Arctor does not use some weird backup format. Arctor saves the files as they are, only adding an extension to the backup file name. This means even if Arctor fails to run, you can always restore your backups, because the files are there individually as they were originally. This is yet another layer of safety against failure of your backup software functioning properly at restore time. What good is a backup when you can't restore? PS: I carry many videos by Peter Pellikaan. See here http://www.lybrary.com/peter-pellikaan-m-395137.html If you can provide proof of purchase maybe I can help you out with your lost videos.

Good advice Chris! I carry my thumb drive with me everywhere. I try to make sure I have copies of my most important files. I keep them on my main computer, will email them to myself so I can access from any other computer and pull up the attachment and also save on my thumb drive.

I back up everything I purchase (for personal use only). I even go as far as keeping a portable hard drive (actually more than one due to file sizes / hard drive sizes). It is kept in a storage shed on another property in case a disaster of some sort hits my house or my main computer. A friend of mine has multiple back ups in case one just loses everything (it happens). I am not a fan of sites that ONLY sell streaming copies. I do not always have an internet connection and they might not ALWAYS be in business for unforseen reasons.
If you run into a site that only has streaming, there are apps and programs that allow you to view your video and record it to various file types in the same manner as simply taking a screenshot. In essence, you are taking a "video screenshot". That can then be backed up and viewed offline. Some of these programs are Free and some Paid. Just do some homework/research on them. The final product comes out great too. It is great that people like Chris has a great site and is stable enough to know he will be around a while. His back up system works well. I have accidentally deleted an ebook or two over the years and was always able to re-download them from "My Account" on his site. However, not all sites are as well established as Chris's www.lybrary.com so you need an alternative backup system to protect the purchase you made with your hard earned dollar.

Penguin, VanishingInc, and Lybrary all have great setups for accessing you downloads from anywhere in the world. Definitely keep your important files on backup. Computers are great, but sometimes they can be unreliable.

Also, if any video is streaming you can use software to save a copy onto your hard drive. This isn't to do anything illegal, but to make sure you always have access to what you paid for
