Yesterday, my father gave me this great ashtray. It's a family piece. I love it!

Very nice. It looks like a replica (probably) of a greco-roman oil lamp.

😊 I also didn't come any further than the Greece-connection. May be Curator Chelman knows more? 🕵️♀️

It's from the classic D&D module "The Tomb of Horrors." Any player character that simply touched this thing had to make a saving throw vs. death ray or instantly die!
(Actually true!) Click on the pic link below and see for yourself. http://i.imgur.com/9tAWXPJ.jpg |

Its actually a sphere of annihilation (yes, I DM'd that module over 30 decades ago) - no saving throw - instant death! Oh, the memories.... along with the Village of Hommlet.... but boy, did I love playing basic with Keep on the Borderlands.

Was that the ruling? - I guess it was. I couldn't remember precisely. I just remembered that it killed our fighter (the tank) when he touched it. It was a good 30 years ago, so I was certain that a saving throw was involved. I still have the module. Keep on the Borderlands and the Village of Hommlet...CLASSICS. Back in those days we mixed basic and advanced together. I don't remember anybody back then playing AD&D exactly as written.
I still think "I6 - Ravenloft" was my fave module out of that golden era. Fortunately for me, I was a player and wasn't DM'img it. And yes. I died in the Tomb of Horrors. |
