So, I have a performance piece to make for my AP English course, and it must take the form of a TED talk... I've decided that I'm going to discuss attention and change blindness, and to augment my data, I'm going to perform a pickpocketing routine and would love some feedback on my ideas.
I will begin by giving someone my jacket, and then having them insert my wallet and my watch into the 2 inside pockets (under the pretense of not wanting to steal their stuff). Then I shall continue with a coin vanish, finding it in their pocket, stepping across them, and snagging their phone from their front pocket. I then will say something about the watch, directing their attention to it, and in doing so, launch into a classic wallet steal (Apollo Robbin's version is pretty much what I'm gonna do). Lastly I'll ask them to remove the watch from their pocket and hold it in their hand, and then clench their hand around it. Finally I'll ask if they'd be impressed if I could take it from them, when they say yes, I then ask them to open their hand, and take it out of their palm saying "I'll cheat if you let me", thank them, and then empty my pockets. Any suggestions would be welcome, but I don't know if I can make any huge modifications as I am already under a time crunch and don't think I have the time to learn a major sleight like a watch steal. |
