Here is an interesting article about a Magician I watched as a youngster growing up in St. Louis who had a PROFOUND influence on me.
Ernie Heldman was one of the pioneers of TV Magic in the US. http://www.jonnieking.net/gpage32.html |

I just saw a copy of a manuscript written by Earnie on doing magic on television. Dated but very insightful.

Yes, I agree with everyone above. I never got to meet Ernie, but, wish that I had. I never did much TV work (well, BOZO in Chicago!) but, I bought some of his "stuff" and, it was obvious that he KNEW!

Ernie was a big part of what I call the "St. Louis Cavalcade of Magicians".........part of a rich heritage of some of the gentlemen whom, to this day, I believe were some of the greatest magicians in the US.
Those magicians included Bro. John Hamman, Roy Mayer, Gene DeVoe, John Mendoza, Will Lindhorst, Michael O'Dowd, Don Lawton, Bud Dietrich, Harry Monti, Dan Fleshman, James Holmes, Harold Russel, Steve Bender (Ickle Pickle), and many many more. Imagine hanging around with these guys growing up in St. Louis! I was LUCKY!! |

Ernie Heldman's cleanup for OOTW was in one of Jon Racherbaumer's early publications; I believe Heirophant. (SP?)
