IMO, the "on both sides" was clearly in reference to "violence"" NO, NO, NO. This was not equivalent in any size shape or form. And it's worse than misleading to imply in any way that the Nazi murderers armed with guns, pepper spray, and torches were in any way the same as those protesting their presence. I've been to dozens and dozens of protests, and cops typically insist that even banners have to be made with hollow cardboard tubes so as not to hurt anyone. That they allowed the Nazis to gather in this way was incredibly stupid and negligent at best, malevolent at worst. One side murdered and is trying to excuse it. That's NOT "both sides were violent."

AFAIK, the protest included *one* murderer. I'm not sure if you're suggesting at all of the physical altercations were started by the white nationalists, which seems highly implausible, or that physical altercations started by the counter-protestors are excusable, which I strongly disagree with.

They are JUSTIFYING the murder.

I'm not sure who the "they" are here or what specifically you're referring to, but obviously all reasonable people (and some unreasonable ones, no doubt) would agree that it's unjustified. But that's a digression to the question of violence on both sides.
When things escalate from words, whether shouted or printed on signs, to physical violence, the person(s) who instigate the violence are in the wrong. Regardless of whether they're in the right or the wrong as regards the words. Period, full stop.

They = the leaders of the Nazi protests and their sympathizers.
In NO way is a physical skirmish the same as murder or the justification of murder.

Throwing shade. No Equivalence. Not even close.

I think you're the one throwing shade. I never suggested that there was an equivalence. But the fact that a murder occurred doesn't excuse anyone from committing assault and battery. Even if you don't like the people who got assaulted and battered. If you're looking for someone to defend the driver, you're on the wrong bus; I'd kill the guy (upon conviction). He was the worst actor. Acknowledged, agreed. And irrelevant to the point that YOU continue to pass over. Violence instigated in response to non-violent is wrong, and condemnable. Even if it's not as bad as murder.

To put it another way, if we're debating whether the violence in both sides should be condemned, and we agree that the violence on one side (the white nationalists') should be condemend, then there's only one point at issue -should violence initiated by the coubter-protestors be condemned?
Anything else is noise, or a separate discussion. I'm happy to have the separate discussion with you, but I imagine it will be pretty boring, because I'm certainly not going to defend the driver or the position that assault is as bad as murder.

If they are the Nazis, your leader is Hitler and you are the communist resistance, one still wonders what next?
What will the synthesis, from the thesis and the antithesis, be? More, police state stuff, perhaps? Cui bono?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

So according to the most recent press conference, Robert E. Lee, the treasonous general for the treasonous forces that tried to overthrow and destroy the United States Government should be accorded the same honor as George Washington, the general for the forces that created the United States Government.
Unbelievable. I was actually hopeful that the decent second press statement, which in my opinion showed some understanding, was indicative of more coherence to follow. I was mistaken.
