@tommy I was rather making a point that it doesn't make sense to get picky whether it's a cull or not, since we can't know the smallest detail (while yes, we can know that he had those 9s on top before the camera started, I was just making a point that pulling out the 9s in the room with the stooges openly and throwing them on top is not what is generally implied by the phrase "cull the cards" and getting technical with it and saying that it technically is a cull doesn't make much sense).

@dapo24:
From Dictionary.com "cull" verb (used with object) 1.to choose; select; pick. 2.to gather the choice things or parts from. 3.to collect; gather; pluck. noun 4.act of culling. 5.something culled, especially something picked out and put aside as inferior. Generally culling is not usually done surreptitiously. I think with card table artifice it is often used that way which can create confusion in terminology but in the broader sense it does not employ secrecy or deceptive maneuvers. Maybe that is helpful. |

Thanks, Cag. I learn most of the words from the context and never actually check them in a dictionary, so that's my bad here. I should have noticed that I may have gotten the meaning wrong.

Can’t you just peek the bottom card and if it is a Queen then cull another Queen using the Dad Stevens Cull? Or is that cheating.
Culls the desired cards: To cull is the act of selecting one or more desired cards, and may consist simply in making the selection as discreetly as possible while gathering up the cards for the deal, or it may be the operation of a much more obscure and apparently impossible feat--that of gathering the desired cards rapidly and easily, from various positions in the deck, to the bottom, during the process of a shuffle that appears perfectly natural and regular. @tommy I was thinking about applications for Macau (which is sadly a dying game it seems), so it's more specific than just a pair of anything.

They say of Macau “Cheating is encouraged in the game, and it can make for a lively evening”.
These sort of games tend to lend themselves to the Erdnase dilly dally methods or whatever they are called – a sort of riffle cull while toying with the deck. I mean, I think you might combine them, with say the Stevens Cull perhaps.

The name "Macau" is used here because of the core principles of the game, but cheating is not encouraged the way they play it in Poland (it's a very simplified version of Macau, each game diffrent rules since it's more of a game you play when you have a break from work or smth.) Toying with the deck is something one can get away with, but I was pursuing the riffle cull here more out of curiosity.

Just remember "curiosity killed the cat" and he wasn't even doing a riffle cull.
