In this week's podcast, we step back in time to learn about one of our profession's greatest comedic performers: Carl Ballantine, "The World's Greatest Magician".
While I was performing at the world famous Magic Castle this past June, I had an opportunity to sit down for a chat with one of Carl's daughters, Saratoga "Sara" Ballantine, who also happens to sit on the Board for the Academy of Magical Arts. During our chat, Sara talked at length about her father and what it was like to live in a household where Hollywood celebrities came and went every day. For you see (in case you didn't know), Carl was better known to the rest of the "Muggle" world as a comedy actor having roles in movies and on television. His best known role was as "Lester Gruber" in the long-running TV series, "McHale's Navy" with Ernest Borgnine...or as Sara would call him, "Uncle Ernie". This week's podcast is a delightful, fun conversation that seemed to end all too quickly. We recorded this in the business office of the Academy of Magical Arts (The Magic Castle) and our meeting was facilitated by the Director of Membership, Trish Alaskey. You can watch a couple videos of Carl plus a full-length documentary she co-produced called "Troupers" (about character actors who are about become forgotten were it not for this film), read the blog, see some photos, listen to the podcast online, and download the MP3 file at: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/scot......y-father
