So I'm not sure if this has been discussed but how do some of you feel about performing Bizarre magic and being mindful of people's beliefs? I don't wish to start a religious discussion but I'm more interested in how you handle performing this type of material around an audience that may find it offensive.
Any input? I would love to hear what some of you think -Bob |

I have heard of some that present it as a "demonstration" of how mediums and such coned people throughout history..

You have to be careful not to present it as offensive to the religious belief. For example, I did a bizarre magic show for a church and presented it as a scientific premise and not a religious one. It is important in these cases to lay the foundation that it is entertainment, not something supernatural.

I think the biggest thing is just to be very respectful, and do your research. Make sure you know how to treat the subject matter with respect.

Along what my friend the witch doctor said, do the research (don't put a spin on beliefs) get all the facts, details of a tradition (the why's and wherefores) and also know your audience (if it's a ticketed event that will usually take care of itself if it offends them , they probably won't buy a ticket) if it is a paid gig, just ask question of "issues" for them ahead of time

I have also found that in showing that you've done the research to be respectful, you gain a lot of respect from the respective groups.
