Does anyone own a set of Uday cups in copper? Wondering how much of a difference in weight vs the brass set. Thanks all!

Out of curiosity after reading your question, I went to the Uday website. Looks like the weight of the cups are part of the info they list there. Dig around a little.

Thank you, BeThePlunk, but, as you know, a lot of it is about the feel, not just knowing the weight. Thank you for the info though.

You asked specifically about weight. Feel is something no one else can help you with.

Penguin Paul Fox Style cups are the way to go. They have improved them and they are spun from 050 copper, Nicely weighted and balanced.

Agreed, Mad Jake. But I actually just purchased from Penguin, as I watched all weekend for an open box to get a deal. They arrived, exterior in great shape but interior was aged and/or tarnished. I spoke to them, but they just said to clean them. Didn't fully get the tarnish off, but I don't know if it's worth returning. They are a great set of cups though all around. Nice weight.

If cleaning this set didn't take care of it as you'd hoped, then perhaps a coat of flat black spray paint will at least make them uniform looking. Heck, some professional cups are actually shipped with a flat black coating inside. (Joe Porper's cups come immediately to mind.) Since you like the weight and overall feel of the cups then why worry over something that will typically go unseen by your audience? Hope you use your new cups and enjoy them in good health. I have owned some Uday cups but they were cheap and very light..... I always had sticker shock of the nicer sets.... Eventually I bit the bullet and got a nice set ....and there they sat .........
I have recently wanted to try to routine this out again and practice |

For what it is worth, the coveted Paul Fox cups when spun by Danny Dew were polished on the outside but only degreased on the inside and looked like the Penguin cups. If it was good
enough for Danny Dew, why not Penguin? I like dark or satin cups so there is no reflection 100/100 True mirror polish is not the way to go. I learned that from my father and he was right. If you want to clean them out with some steel wool that will clean them up a bit, but l wouldn't worry about, Danny didn't Viking Magic and Joe Porper would paint the inside of their cups with black paint, to me that is over kill. Especially on the Porper cups. When you CNC the inside of cups like Joe did there is no reason to paint them, it's not a satin finish but it is dull enough not to reflect. Mad Jake Jr.

I had this same issue with my cups but truthfully I don't mind it and no one has ever said "hey that routine was nice but maybe you should polish the inside of your cups"
I did clean them up a little though when I got them just so they were not quite as rough on the inside but far from polished. Truthfully I think copper cups look better with age and not ever polishing them, brass on the other hand I am not so sure about. |

I have copper cups that are (green) oxidizing on the inside, and I never even considered it until this post. I won't pretend to be a great magician, but I did a little show on Christmas and was sort of put-off because a woman in the audience was going on about how pretty the cups were.... I thought I needed crappier cups so they wouldn't think about them.
I show the inside enough for them to see it is empty, not enough for them to determine the quality of the gloss. The insides only matter when they are full of stuff, and then it's just the stuff they care about.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

I cleaned the interior of my penguin cups with Tarn-X mixed with water. It took me only 5 secs to get the job done. Be very careful! This stuff is very strong and do not use it on brass.
