Paul released Lexicology about 7 years ago. The original trick came with a laminated card. Paul has revamped this to be made of 100% plastic.
First of all, the quality of the card is superb. It has a similar feel to bicycle plastic deck of cards. I believe it will last a long time in your wallet. The trick itself is killer. It's a whole routine that fits in your wallet. It can be done for 1 spectator or up to 4 spectators. The first spectator looks at a list of 21 words and remembers one of the words. They get an image of their word in their mind and the performer instantly reveals it. No questions asked. The second spectator thinks of a different word from this list and then turns the card over and find a word they can relate with their chosen word. The performer instantly names the new word--no questions asked. For the finally, two more spectators think of a word and the performer reveals each word. Every word is different on both sides of the card. The first phase is the best take on this particular principle I've seen. It allows you to very cleanly reveal the spectator's thought of image. The second phase is just as clean and just as effective. There's no real work with either of thee phases. The card does the work for you. Phase 3 and 4 use the same method and it is genius. This final phase is what I am most excited about. Essentially, Paul has BEAUTIFULLY scripted a reveal which seems very fair and above board, and will allow you to nail the exact word the spectator is thinking of. Talk about genius. It is so very very VERY clever. You can tell Paul put a lot of thought into this aspect of the routine. Overall, I love this card. It appears genuine (like a card for some psychic test) and the methods use weave together very nicely. I performed all four phases on my girlfriend and each phase amazed her more than the last. She was clueless as to how any of the 4 phases works. This says a lot because my girlfriend is VERY knowledgeable when it comes to magic and mentalism. This gets an A+ in my book. I will keep this with me to perform miracles with any time and anywhere. Grab this while you can at: http://mentalvoyage.com/lexicology.htm Madison |

Is there a selection "process", or do they just look at the card and think of any word they want to?

Do you think it works translating the words in other languages?

I would be interested in a Dutch version of this

Madison, I'm glad to hear that this passed the girlfriend test! I get a lot of feedback on this one, thinking mentalists really seem to like this card.
Giannim and MrEmagic: The principles used can be adapted to any language without much work. Once you know the principles involved it would be a simple matter to use the principles in any language, some changes may be needed, but it wouldn't be difficult. Please let me know if you have any other questions. |

I just received a package of effects from Mentalvoyage, one of which is Lexicology2. I will attempt to review them all in the coming days but will start with this one as I have some prior knowledge from the initial version. The card is plastic and more sturdy and flexible than the original. It fits easily in your wallet and is a powerful effect to be able to do in seeming spontaneity. ALthough it is easy to learn and memorize the key words and questions, it is not for beginners but rather for those with some experience in delivering mentalism. Presentation is critical and the spectator must see your confidence in moving from one question to the next. Recognizing reaction is also a key to the success of this effect. Although it can go in differing directions and does involve some limited fishing, it is all natural and well disguised and should pass over the head of the spectator. For those who prefer mind sleights to manual ones, Lexicology 2 is highly recommnded.

There are also bonus effects on the Lexicology 2 card...esp and number forces.

It should also be mentioned that this can be performed for 1-4 people but 2 is optimum imo.
