That's disputable... as far as I know there's never been any "definitive" evidence to rule it out. There's been some dating to suggest it was written much later than the murders, but also some to suggest it was written at the time. There's also some details in the diary that were not available to the public until recent times. It has got a really dubious origin though ("the bloke in the pub gave it to me"), but I think Im right in saying that it was also the first document to reference the "FM" at the murder site... lots of evidence for and against, like most suspects.

First, take everything I say with a grain of salt, as I'm relatively new to magic. That said, however...
Whether the connection between Maybrick and the Ripper is valid or not is sort of beside the point, isn't it? All you really need to do is tell the audience (assuming they've even heard of Maybrick in the first place) that new evidence has surfaced supporting the link (or any other spurious Ripper claims you care to invent). Then perform whatever effect(s) you wish to perform with that as the basis for your presentation. So my advice, in a single word: lie. -- Jake

If you want to use some kind of diary theme, sure.
Nobody knows who. That's the real enigma of the case and would proberly make the best bizarre frame work for an effect.

Well there is a pocket watch that was supposed to be owned by Jack the Ripper. Maybe try something using an old pocket watch?
Incidentally my girlfriend has held the watch as a family friend knows the guy that owns it. |

I have been planning a Ripper seance ever since I got Docc Hilford's Weerd Tapes from Flora. I have Victorian English coins, a true lister amputation knife (a possible weapon used), with a popular Ripper suspect's name engraved (William Whiteny Gull), Lee Earle's Musing Box, A Doctor's Bag, and a great effect I am desparatly looking for the source of, in which a facsimilie of the one famous "Dear Boss" letters is read and at the end you slap your empty hand down on the letter and it makes a bloody handprint (your hand remains clean) which can be handed out as a keeper if you wish). Dear Boss by Keith Arlen Lack.
The infamous "Jack the Ripper" letter. I have been reading books on the murders for years and think it will be a killer seance when ready. Another thought: use the diary theme for a book test as part of the tale. I won't go into detail, but my idea is an old relavtive who was a bobbie during the autumn of terror who lifted an object from Mary Kelly's room (site of the last most brutal killing), and having inherited this item(s) I have found odd happenings. In trying to establish contact with Mary, well she won't come alone is all I'll say. Ever sinvce I heard Docc Hilford's idea I have been obsessed with a killer (pun intended) seance. But which it that he sees, even the wisest cannot always tell" ~Galadriel "A heretic is a man who sees with his own eyes." |
