Hmmm, I know it's not in the Greatest Hits, Secret Files and Front Row Sankey. And it can't be in his earlier DVDs, ie 22 Blow, Earplugs, etc. So I'm going to say it's in his Anytime Anywhere? I sold AA so I can't verify this for sure..

That's right! Thanks for solving this mystery, fib. Jay uses mercury fold technique in Mercuiral Prediction. I love this effect and can't believe I didn't remember the method.

I think I'll be picking up this DVD set soon. I've always debated if it was worth it or not.

Pick up anything by Jay Sankey. He's good and funny too.
Haha
For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, none will suffice.

I agree with Zing82. "Pick up anything by Jay Sankey." He IS good and funny. Even if you're not keen on a particular trick, he's super entertaining and completely nuts!

I've got about 4 of his DVD's. Secret Files in on it's way. Should be here tomorrow. Even though he sorta repeats himself on various DVD's, it is nice to see alternate usage of moves, and routines. While some of them may not be what I am looking for, I get the impression that they will play well because he knows how to sell it.
I have - Sankeytized Vol 1 Very Much Sankey Sankey Live 22 Blows to the Head I have been very pleased with all of them. I don't look this one to be any less than the rest. Doulos |

I just had the pleasure of attending Jay's lecture here in Toronto last Saturday, and I have to say he's even better in person, and a great guy as well. He demonstrated a whole collection of new stuff, some complete effects, some just quirky [but brilliant!] moves.I picked up his "Beyond Secrets" book, and there are some important insights into magic that are often overlooked or forgotten. Much of Jay's appeal lies in his performing ability - read this to get a glimpse "under the kimono". Recommended!

I saw Jay lecture last year and I totally agree with you: he is great in person. He truly cares about magic and comes across as a really nice guy.
To keep this thread on track, his newest dvd, the Bar and Restaurants one, is fantastic and contains some great advice.

I like his dvd's as much as everyone else, however, I think his books are even better. When Creators Collide, 100% Sankey and Sankey Panky. He seemed more into hardcore stuff back in his earlier days, now its a lot more commercial. Either way, pick up his material. Also, a word to the wise, be cautious buying his individual effects, go for the dvd's.

I only have one of his instructional videos (Revolutionary Coin Magic), so I'm not in much of a position to judge. But I think he's...uh...a bit odd. Disturbed. Affected.
Don't get me wrong, he's got great moves and his material is strong and visual. And when he gets to it, he's a pretty good teacher. If there's a frustration, it's his launching into his "crazed" persona. He starts acting demented and the camera guy is trying to catch him being crazy and misses some of the effects he's trying to teach. Obviously he's a leading talent in magic...I just think it might be helpful to turn the "crazy perfomer" mode down a notch or two on the instructional videos. Ham it up on the presentations...but maybe focus just a bit more during the instruction portion. Or not. He's an amazing talent and can conduct himself any way he wants. He has legions of fans--rightfully so--and he can certaily thrive without my insights. Just a thought... BooRadley |

Boo, I think Jay has calmed down somewhat from the RCM days. Although there were moments of craziness during his recent lecture, none of it was of the "disturbed" persona you mention. And I have to say I had the benefit of a little direct instruction/advice on the tenkai/goshman pinch, and Jay was extremely helpful, focused and direct [and tactful!]
Like you, I'm more interested in the coin stuff, and haven't seen much else of his work on DVD. But the good news is he's working on RCM2... go Jay! |

He has definitely calmed down. He has streamlined his persona on the dvds so he still comes across a bit wild at times but his explanations are very clear.

Hi,
I think The Secret Files are a good buy. I have purchased a lot of Sankey DVDs. Sometimes there are a lot of similar effects, but the Secrets Files is one of his good ones |
