I think 7-9 was the worst of the sets.. go with 1-6 and start with #1 or 2 if you are a beginner..

I have 1 - 3 and 2 is my favorite. I'm torn on whether to order 4 - 6 or try Bill Malone's On The Loose series right now. I'll end up with both before its all said and done.

Didn't want to start a new thread, I apologize for bringing back this one. I have a quick question:
Can most of these effects (I'll be starting with vol. 1) be done strolling, or do they need to be seated/at a table? |

The vol.2 , 4 and 5 are the best in my opinion

There's PLENTY that can be done entirely in the hands, and plenty that require a table. Enough for anyone. The first set on Volume Two is Twisting the Aces, Doc Daley's Last Trick, and Card Warp. This set can be done entirely without a table (and is a very strong series of effects!) |

I don't own these DVDs but as stated anything from Mr.Ammar is great and well taught.

I have just received volumes 1-5. The effects are great, and the teaching top-notch.
In addition, each DVD comes with an extra: one contains an "insurance policy" while others contain some bridge-sized gaffed cards for various effects. (Oh, would that they were poker-sized cards!) While I think these are excellent for learning routines, I would not use them to learn the sleights. They would better be used in conjunction with Card College or The Royal Road to Card Magic, but perhaps I am stating the obvious. Overall, I am greatly pleased with my purchase and would not hesitate to recommend them. |

Hi
I have all 9 DVDs in this series. There are a wide range of effects. Some easy, some difficult. Some good, some bad. Some impromptu, some requires preparation. All effects are not as easy as the title of the DVD seems. But most are achievable after considerable practice. It is really difficult to say which particular DVD is better than the other. Different people have difference styles, experience and preference. Personally, the best thing I suggest you do is look at the contents of each DVD. And get those DVDs who has effects that interest you. Hope this helps Phil |

The extras (gaffs) only come in vol 1-6. Vol 7-9 that were released in 2004 do not contain any extras

With all due respect, I don't think that you younger guys can fully appreciate the incredible value of this set. Before videos existed, I spent thousands of dollars going to conventions to session with guys just to learn some of these effects. I learned many of them personally from Larry Jennings, Bro. John Hammon, Dai Vernon, Alan Ackerman, Paul Harris, Michael Ammar, etc. I also studied countless books...you would have to study 60 different books to get this material and you still wouldn't get all of it.
Now, Ammar has done all of that work for you and laid it out on a platter for the taking. This, to me, is the most valuable set of videos/DVDs ever made for the aspiring student of card magic. Best regards, Glenn Godsey |
