Hi:
Several years ago someone manufactured silver ritual objects used in witch craft, these were quite small and were used by fairies. Eugene Burgher, offered some usage for them etc. Who the devil was it? I cannot recall the name. James1a |

Van Warren, or Dr. Van Warren, is/was a silversmith who lived in Arizona, or maybe New Mexico, I can't recall which. He did beautiful work, producing 2 different sized sets of cast silver rune stones, a silver and brass ritual cup/mini bowl to burn things in, an interesting coin in bottle set, a small silver 'finger planchette', a bronze voodoo doll, and of course the Four Magical Elements, an ungimmicked set of props issued with a book of routines by Burger and others.
Van is/was a really nice guy, and was something of a believer in new age things, which IIRC he eventually took up, drifting away from performance magic and silver smithing. I can't recall if was acupuncture or something else that he did. I was lucky enough to buy a number of his items when they were available. The one thing I missed out on was his Four Magical Elements. |

He was in New Mexico but none of the traditional jewelers in retail knew anything about him at the time.

He told me once that he knew BoB Terzuola, a now very famous New Mexico knife Maker. I've never met anyone in magic who met Van Warren personally, and one of them who might have is no longer with us . It's a shame when a maker of high end magic props retires, but it does allow us to appreciate what we have of theirs more. Here's a photo link showing a few of Van's products: the large size rune stones, the burning bowl (with a separate silver base), and the voodoo figure (for an effect that was healing related rather than damage related.) http://atombum.com/Images/Magic/001.gif |
