This is a fantastic dvd. The camera angles weren't good for the lecture at Blackpool - but at The Session he blew away the room!
I bought it instantly in January - no regrets at all. |

I like many effects, most of them, I don't even bother to practice or try it out. Main reason is because I don't like certain kinds of magic (e.g., those which require big set-up, or rely heavily on sleights, etc.). |

These deck switches look really good, back when Hank Lee's was opened in Boston I saw a street gambler perform an almost identical deck switch, that was about 15 years ago and I was young and couldn't remember the mechanics but this DVD brought back memories from when the con artist showed me. These deck switches must have been good because this guy was using them while playing cards against other con artists.

Does it boil down to "swap the decks when no-one is looking" ?

To all the "is this necessary" and "you can't do these in the real world" people....you're allowed to just like these moves for their own sake and practice them for the enjoyment of just practicing. Theres more to magic than paying your mortgage with spongeballs. Enjoy yourselves.

No comment on the DVD but when Ben did this stuff at Magic Live last year I thought it was pretty killer.

It's an excellent resource for switches that are mostly the type referred to in the gambling world as "cutter coolers". In othrr words, almost all of the switches occur during the action of cutting the deck to the table. Ben does touch on a couple of stand up switches from the pockets but they are far from being the focus of this dvd. The production is excellent and watching a master like Ben go through the moves is nothing short of astounding.

With specific regards to Ben's Blackpool lecture on switches. there is a very similar download available from Art of Magic featuring Paul Wilson.
It's well shot, very detailed, not overlong and covers pretty much what Ben demonstrated. Might be useful to some and will certainly be cheaper. Think I paid £7 for it. |
