Hi everyone,
Any thoughts on training doves and parakeets while they are in active breeding I have parakeets sitting on eggs now and I assume it would be rude and rather insensitive to the little mom and dad to do active handling and training We have dove eggs also ( this will be my third generation to train) and I'd like to continue working with mom but I think I should let her alone while egg sitting. Just looking for confirmation on this. thx Bruce |

I've never worked with parakeets so I can't be much help in that regard. I do know about doves however. There is no reason not to work with your doves while they are sitting on eggs. In case you don't know, your male dove will sit on the eggs from about 10 AM to 4 PM. The male and female will change places at 4. You can almost set your watch by that schedule. You can work with the female during the day and the male during the evening.

I did know they switched places to sit on the eggs, I didn't know about the schedule, that's cool.....my wife noticed it and said all Dad's should be so involved
Thanks for the info Bruce |

My 2 macaws are breeding right now. Their behavior has changed ever since I made a nest box. They are now territorial and treat me like an enemy. I guess they are on "Do not disturb" mode. I am giving them a chance to breed this year. If that fails, they go back to my shows.

I agree Lou,
My Doves are still friendly to me and I can work with them, the parakeets are clearly on "Do not disturb" for now....The OLEP trick goes on hold Bruce |
