Magician friends!
So I've been inspired by the Pro Carrier by Joshua Jay and I want to make something along the same lines, but different. The pro carrier has a great purpose! It holds two decks and coins, even a couple extra cards, but its bulky because it does hold two decks. I've rendered a rough mock up to show my ideas. Along with the slot for the deck, I've got two slots for a sharpie, a slot for business cards, and a slot for gaff/dupes/packet trick. Oh, and there is a belt loop on the back! Any suggestions, changes, or opinions? Thanks! |

Good Idea!
Although it is a bit odd looking, I can see it serves well for some purposes. Check out the strolling pouches made by the ambitious card, it might inspire more idea for you! Tak |

In the past I have tried various pouches and wallets and always end up just using my pockets. I have thought about making a small hard case which I could place on the table and use a s a performance space.
In good design the problem must be very well defined and understood first, to lead to a solution that must be simple and user friendly. I am not against designing and working on something. I feel that if the problem is how to carry 2 decks of cards and four coins it going to be hard to beat the solution of trouser pockets. However if we look at the problem of carrying stuff in our pockets and highlight those then look at a solution it then may lead in to something that is not a belt pouch. Or you design the best ever belt pouch. Hope my rambles help and keep us up to date on what you come up with!
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |

I need something like this. I want to carry more stuff than I can cram into my pockets, even though I don't really end up using it all,

Paul...The more experience that you have, the less you will carry.
Forget about 'BUYING" TRICKS. You cannot BUY a TRICKS!!! A trick only exists while it is being performed. Learn PRINCIPLES! Then, you'll be able to perform with generic props! (Rope, handkerchiefs, coins, silks, etc.) Generic props don't need a lot of pocket space, AND, (for example) 4' of rope can provide 15 minutes of entertainment, ditto, a couple of nylon handkerchiefs. When I usta do Hospitality Suites for trade shows, I could get "time" out of G.W. Hunter's "Impossible Knot". The skills that you carry in your head, are much lighter than the props you carry in your pockets!

Meir Yedid already designed the belt, 2 decks of cards and coins pouch, in leather, and it only $15 on the big auction site, Postage paid. He sells it on his website but you have to pay the postage.
Looks nice I am thinking about getting one, to put in my drawer collection. |

Or that there will too many people that have already seen my A set in a strolling situation and so I have to do a B set. One day last fall I was performing strolling magic at a renaissance fair. It was the busiest day of the year, and they were using satellite parking and buses to get people to the fair. They had major problems with the buses when the fair closed, so people were queuing up for buses that weren't coming on time. I got tapped to walk up and down the lines entertaining people. I went thru all of my A material in the first hour. I started using lots of the B material I had with me, plus I started going through a lot of the jokes I knew. Towards the end, I was doing closeup magic in the dark, with people using their cellphones for flashlights. The steals were very easy. After almost three hours of waiting, the busses started coming. That was one day I was thankful for packing lots of extra magic. |

I know that fair. (Bloomington, right?) My pal Bruce Jensen and I went there several times, a few years ago. My young friend Will Earley, worked there several seasons doing strolling shows. That must have been "challenging" (3 hour delay!!!)
You apparently handled the situation! THAT should make management happy!!! That's one reason that I "stick" with generic props! (versatile!!!) Working the lines...I do "bits" of quick visual stuff, like vanishing lit match in TT! It's visual. Perpetual balls works great for me in those "line" situations. Also vanishing 18" silk with TT. Hull's "Elusive Silk Vanish" is a 2 minute bit, that's strong, funny, and no reset. My Norwegian YOYO (with rope) plays great, ditto ring and rope stuff. "Slydini Knots" (from Discovery of Witchcraft") is great for line work. As you gain experience, it gets easier!!!

Its Shakopee, right next to Bloomington. Thank you for the suggestions on tricks. I will have to check them out. I have been working on some new ring and rope material from Jay Sankey called Dragons Tail, which I will be using at this year renaissance fair, assuming my wife gives me permission and the fair wants me back. |

It's possible that I may spend a weekend, visiting Gigi, Bruce Jensen's widow. this summer. Perhaps, we could get together for an afternoon. Maybe, Will Earley could find time to join.
I'll be checking with Gigi sometime next month.......

If you haven't read Jamie Grant's The Approach, I'd recommend checking out his thoughts on pocket space and how much you need to carry to entertain for hours. He breaks down sets, not into A and B material but simply having 3 different sets you can perform and being able to rotate them. Add in a good repertoire of FASDIU material and you should be set for hours on end.
Your pouch design looks functional, but am not sure it is any less bulky? For me, magic coming from the pockets just seems more, well, magical. You keep a pen clipped on a pocket or in your shirt because that is where pens are supposed to be. The more things that come out of a magic pouch, the more they seem like props and I think that hurts us at times. |

Here's a slim pouch with lots of possibilities, instead of ...
a spot for this and a spot for that. everyone's needs are different and this gives you options.

I know you are retired, but are you retired from lecturing? There's an IBM club and a SAM club in the Twin Cities, and we get fairly good turnout at magic lectures. I'm sure we could arrange a lecture opportunity if you were interested. |

I've lectured in the Twin Cities, perhaps a half dozen times, in the last 30 years. IIRC, most of the time, for EAGLE MAGIC SHOP. I do a very occasional lecture date, now. I never did a lecture that taught tricks! (I'm not a trick inventor!) Too many magicians attend lectures to be ENTERTAINED by the lecturer! I "did" some tricks to illustrate the lecture, but I usually focused on PRESENTATION.
I've lectured all over North America, for rings, assemblies, magic shops, regional conventions, and a few national conventions, too. Perhaps we can discuss possibilities, this summer.
