Just for those who haven't yet heard, Harry passed away in his home today from "natural causes".
I'm 37 years old and have literally been a fan of Harry since I can even remember. I am so hurt to lose such a great and talented man, but so proud to call myself a lifelong fan of his work. I won't forget you, Harry. |

I met Harry at a magic convention at Columbia, SC. I clearly was a "fan", would have been thrilled with just an autograph. Such a nice outgoing man, shot the breeze for with me unrushed for 15 minutes instead, I could not believe it. I still have the photo of him and street performer Kosmo and myself another guy so kindly took for me. He carefully signed my Wise Guy book. Harry was with Ricky the magic store owner from Asheville. I'll never forget how generous he was with his time, had a blast dropping stories. My daughter lived downtown New Orleans at time so I had been at Harry's unique shop/and Oswald's. He told me the story how a tourist in New Orleans asked Harry to take a photo of he tourist and street performer Kosmo, not recognizing Harry. Harry told me how terrible the politics of New Orleans was after Hurricane Katrina prompting the move to NC. I watched I'm sure every episode of Night Court several times, love that show. Just a tremendous ambassador of magic, really greatly saddened me (and I'm sure thousands of other viewers) to learn this news this morning. All our condolences to his family and friends.

I was very lucky go get to know Harry a bit and to hang out with him several times.
I spoke to him on the phone occasionally and always enjoyed the time that I got. I own some of his handmade money magic and it is flawlessly made. His "Hello Sucker" is a classic! If you haven't seen it watch it here while you can! https://youtu.be/JlthbJTv39U See how many people you can recognize in the audience. They might be "plants" but I have seen him perform this in person and it was just as fantastic! His shell routine is priceless! http://bit.ly/HHat2 |

Like MagicBus, I too got to meet Harry at the Scam Convention in 2010. As he said, Harry was hanging around with Ricky of Magic Central in Asheville. Harry was a very approachable and kind hearted, if foul mouthed, person. I talked to him quite a bit because I was a fan of Night Court and of Harry's magic. He even listened to my own story about my wife's cancer and left me with his card saying he wanted me to keep in touch and let him know how things were. I regret that I did not keep in touch but I felt it would be intrusive to do so, though Harry did seem quite sincere. I was touched by his humanity and his kindness. I will never forget meeting one of my own childhood idols. He was not what I expected, he was quite a bit more. He was a HUGE personality and down to earth at the same time, and our world is all the lesser for his passing.
You will be missed Harry. Thank you for the lessons and the memories.

The magician Harry Anderson was sitting at a table in South Carolina was with Ricky D. Boone of Asheville N.C. who owned a magic store there. My condolences to Ricky also, it seemed to me that Harry was a friend of his as I know Kosmo (Ted Brainard) was.

I'm reeling from the shock of this. Way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too young to be taken from us. Harry is one of those guys who ought to live forever. He was SO original...inimitable.
Through the years, I always looked forward to new releases by Harry. I bought bunches of them. Pretty ingenious stuff! Gang of Four stood by me for years. I so looked forward to when he did a TV special. "The Grappler" just cracked me up! Great sample of Harry's genius. Harry, you will be SO missed, but forever young in my heart.

Harry Anderson's cause of death:
Anderson, who died on April 16 at the age of 65, suffered a cardio embolic cerebrovascular accident — a type of stroke — according to his death certificate obtained by TMZ. The certificate also mentions influenza and a heart disease as contributing causes that led to his death. |
