A have a very old tape of Dirk Arthur doing his dove act. Shimada was the host on the tape. Anyway Dirk would produce a flash and a puff of smoke then a bird. Does anyone know what he was using to make the puff of smoke? Or does anyone know how I can contact him?
Thanks, Mike |

The old method and the safest as opposed to dangerous chemicals was flash paper wrapped around XXXX gun powder. This type of gun powder can be purchased from a good gun shop.
I do not know of this Dirk Arthur, so I cannot say anything else. Did you ever see Tim Starr do his dove productions. He had a gloved hands. He held out his hand palm up, very still, a puff of smoke and the dove stood up, the bird did not flap his wings. Very good production. |

Dirk Arthur used to use fan tails, and to try to redo this kind of production you may want to go get a finger flasher, some flash cotton, and a little smoke powder may work to create the flash and smoke effect.

Wmhegbli,
Where can I view this production your speaking about with the gloved hand and puff of smoke? Is it on any video or any special that ever aired on tv? Thanks, DJ |

I am sorry to report; last I heard Tim Starr (who was a FISM winner for dove manipulation) was deported out of the United States. He originally was sponsored by the Owner of Rings 'N Things, Michael Brazill to work for him in the U.S. When Rings & Things got in trouble Tim and another lady tried to save the company but did not succeed. Tim was either from Germany or Holland, I cannot remember which country.
I only seen his act twice at Abbott's Get-together. It was really good dove magic. I do not know if any video exist of his act. You would have to check with Abbott's Magic and see if it is on any of there convention highlights tapes. He was also an expert metal fabracator. He made the minnie fire bowls produced from a silk. His Multiplying Candles were pure genius, even impressed magicians. |
