I don't see how Andre can say no one else can do a walking on water... after all the concept is older than all of us.

Dear Pete,
I fully agree with you. Furthermore the effect has been published (with a method) decades ago in a periodical, just like Joe Karson's "No Feet". If memory serves me well, there was also a "Table of Death" in the Walter Jeans book... Regards, D |

I agree as well. People get way crazy with intellectual property rights. Some things simply don't apply. An idea in your head isn't patentable or copyrightable.
Section 101 of the U.S. Patent Act sets forth the general requirements for a utility patent: "Whoever invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvements thereof, may obtain a patent, subject to the conditions and requirements of this title. " It's not right to take someone elses idea and pass it off as your own. But who's to say that Cris Angel used Mr. Koles method? I'm going to say it right here because it's painfully obvious one method is to use clear stilts. COME ON! You can't walk on water!!! Is that an idea that's been printed before? Probably. Have I read it anywhere, no. Is someone going to sue me if I strap clear stilts to my feet and walk around the water? I'd welcome it. |

Anyone is allowed to walk on water. If Andre wants to take full copyright, any religious leader will fight saying 'Jesus did it first!'
Besides, could you just have two small liquid nitrogen canisters tied to your ankles (under your trousers), with small pipes going under your shoes. The water would freeze as you walk upon it, and melt pretty quickly afterwards due to volume. As long as you walk at a quick pace, and have a decent rubber gripped pair of shoes on, you could walk over the water standing on the ice as you create it with each step. Another method... Why not take a small pool and fill it with salt. You would need an awful lot, but it would increase the density of the water so that you could walk over the surface as long as you remained in a constant state of movement. When you slow down you would sink, and you can have people swim in it, but you can also walk over it. Of course, a small invisible sheet of plastic under the water is an obvious idea, I would have two boards, with each board moving out from the side into the centre. As the magician is on one board, people can swim in front of him to show nothing there. Then the second board is expanded, he steps across and continues while the previous board is lowered and people now swim behind him. Other than that, you can try training a couple of fish to carry you on their back. If that doesn't work out, then at least you've got your dinner sorted out. And here is the finished effect from New Concepts In Illusion Design by William Roy Penix V. His version is called "Fish Can't Lie" this took months and I got a chance demo it once and sold it.

In one of my books I have a method to perform this on stage with a large aquarium.
It's Walking on water by Horace Goldin. It can be examined before, after and in some way even during your walk over the water. The method looks great but I am not sure if it will work on stage. Anyone having experience with this one? |
