Tesla Files by Steve Wachner:
Overall the theory and content of Tesla Files is very interesting and engaging, and Steve is very smart. I know for one I am looking forward to future thoughts from him. I would use most (if not all) of the material. It is very thought provoking material and each routine builds in the previous, delving you right into Steve’s thinking. It is well written and the book looks quite good. Unfortunately it doesn’t come in hardback (which I would like and it deserves to be so) but the book is large and full of content. The Short Fuse Code - an interesting spin on something most will know, but also more bold. Regardless of this it should work most of the time if the coder and receiver are well in tune and practiced. The DGAF principle makes this much less risky. Steve also shares a nice structure and method to know what card someone is thinking of without yourself ever touching the deck. I feel this is a very Interesting approach and his philosophy’s are very enjoyable and interesting. Steve also gives a nice refreshing justification for using playing cards in mentalism. The code doesn’t need to be used with cards it can be used for months of the year too or other further information. Academia - the scripting for this routine is beautiful and I love the sneaky first line. It allows you to perform a star sign divination and it be impactful and not mentally jar with people who don’t believe in star signs - they will happily go along for the ride. The method itself is very nice and it all seems as if there is very minimal amount of process or fishing. A Friendly Question - takes something that many currently feel guilty about and suggests a way in which to get the information in a guilt free manner. (This is not talking about a p**k device or CT. Zoltar - a very helpful and natural way to know several details about a spectator based on their star sign with no memory. Zatyricon - I love this and the thoughts behind it. Zatyricon teaches you how to make predictions. However the main technique covers how to have a participant keep a business card and weeks later they experience another effect where a detail that the performer could never know is predicted. Pop Lockin Beats - I very much enjoyed this spectator as mind reader. It is not 100% surefire and Steve admits this but as a spectator tarot as mind reader there can be a miss, but I feel that most of the time this will work as it is very cleverly routined. Linking with this, Steve teaches ‘Target Acquired’ which is a structure for using a peek wallet or device in the most deceiving manner. The More Impressive Ploy - ***. There’s a trend by now with this book review... I love this but I love this most! Presentationally it is great and perfectly justifies a centre tear. Planned Obsolescence - I’ve never performed a PK Pen routine and I probably won’t, but this is a neat and smart way to make a PK Pen on the fly (on the road). From what I can gather this works well. Steve also covers a presentation for it that gets everyone involved and very much fits the title of the book. This method lasts - Steve has been using a sharpie version for over a year. This is also cheap and uses no magnets or strings. It replicates the effect of a pen falling from a table or book - exactly like ‘Fall’ by Banachek and Phillip Ryan. Night Flight To Rio - This is something I’m yet to try, it is very similar in premise to Between The Lines by Michael Murray but used with postcard and images that they imagine. The teaching for this is very in depth and explains it well. After a couple of reads I could do this potentially - the method is in depth and there are several options. It’s just familiarising yourself with the method. The Man Who Fooled Edison - uses other techniques taught in the book In a three billet routine which I very much like. This is reminiscent of Bert Reese’s billet routine but with a twist that means no dummy billet is used. A contribution from Craig Logan is taught by Craig and Steve breaks down his own touches to it to make it personal. Stardust by Corey White - this is off the market but is great’ it’s the best (in my opinion) numerology to star sign system. It’s very simple and looks just as numerology should but you get a star sign in the process. Steve covers numerology readings in .000.000 and there are some nice thoughts for any reader. It’s not a system that I have used myself yet but the following effect Serendipitous Address uses numerology and another idea previously in the book, to create an interesting final hit which I like the theory of. The memory reveals covered are interesting and lots of theory and information is covered which allows a great routine which is anti tada but impactful. |

First, I know I am late to this party, but, full disclosure, Steve was kind enough to send me a copy for review. Second, there have been enough excellent reviews of this book, so I will not bore you by reiterating the contents, which have been covered well in this thread. Instead, I want to tell you some general things about this book and Steve that have impressed me, and should be of interest to you (especially if you have been on the fence about buying it) Steve is excellent at giving us his thought processes that went into creating these effects. This is most helpful because it will spark moments of creativity in your own thinking, not necessarily about the particular effect about which you are reading, but perhaps about something completely unconnected. That ah-ha moment for a way to use a method you had never thought of before. This happened for me while reading the 'Zatyricon' effect in the book. It was a real WOW moment for me and it took me about an hour to get back to the reading, while I wrote as many notes as I could. Steve also provides copious references regarding the mentalists who had an influence on a particular effect. Not all authors are so forthcoming and it is a practice I respect and appreciate. This information, of course, is very useful for the reader who wants to learn some of the history as well as read these authors for himself. And, yes, there are effects in the book where knowing the history is very important. His use of linguistic subtleties throughout the book is impressive and an example of effect strengthening by the creative use of language, not just methods, and these gems can be transferred to effects of your own to make them better. Nice work, indeed. You may not use every effect in the book, or every idea, but I guarantee you will add some of these effects to your working arsenal. And if you don't know who Bert Reese was, you should, and after the Tesla Files, you will. And you will Thank Steve (and Craig Logan) for informing you. Buy it. Read it. Improve your mentalism. Enough said. Warm regards, Preston Heller |

Hello,
are the routines language dependent in any way? Thanks. |

Academia is a three letter star sign anagram that is currently only available in English and Spanish. I'm happy to work with anyone on other languages (or other anagrams even).
Man Who Fooled Edison is language restricted as it's written in the book, but the book also offers another way to perform it. It does cause you to have to perform one other effect earlier in your set (which is fully described in the book.) You'll likely have your own solution already, however, so this isn't a big deal. More Impressive ploy is language dependent as it's written, but I believe you'll find plenty of uses for it even then. I do believe that's the only restrictions. |

I appreciate the recent interest in Tesla Files. A lot of time went into every aspect of the book. Thank you also to Preston for his review, as well as finding different areas to touch on with his review.
Even with those two very thorough and very different reviews, there's still a few more things to discover in the book, which gives me a bit of pride! There are ten more physical copies of the book released at the moment. Only fifty will ever be printed. I've not had troubles shipping it to anywhere in the world yet. If you already own the PDF and want one of the limited paperback copies, get in touch. If I can verify your purchase, I'll see what I can do to work with you. Thank you all again! There's a few very cool things coming up in the pipeline that I can't wait to show off! |
