A Genii tube hinges in the middle (lengthwise) and is used to produce silks, after being shown empty.

Crystal silk cylinders transforms turns silks into a large item.

CAN I TRANSFORM SILKS WITH A GENII TUBE? Change a red silk to a green silk etc.

Yes, but you should use something smaller for a small silk, like a Tarbell Cone. Or use the palmo ball dye tube for a in the hand transformation of a single silk.

What is the difference between "Crystal silk cylinder" and "Crystal silk cylinder (addition)"?

Addition is an extra tube so you can show both tubes empty. A very old magic principal. It is always good to get the addition. It adds more flare to the trick and proves everything is empty.
There is nothing special about the tube. It is not gimmicked in any way. |

The methods behind the two tricks are completely different (Genii Tube vs. Crystal Silk Cylinder). You can do vanishes, appearances, and transformations with both props, so the effects can be the same.
You tend to finish a little more "clean" with the Cyrstal Silk Cylinder (if you perform it the standard way). Typically the Crystal Silk Cylinder has a larger load space. - Donald.

You can also produce and pour liquid from a Genii Tube. I don't think you can do that with the Crystal Silk Cylinder, but I don't own one, so I'm not 100% sure.

It depends upon the model of Genii Tube, to produce liquids (I've seen both types). Just don't want readers to go and buy a standard MAK genii tube, for example, and expect to be able to do that.

Personally, I think the extra tube is just one additional step that brings unnecessary attention to the solid tube. It's the classic case of "running when you're not being chased." I have it and NEVER use it.
Were this a simple matter of "nothing's here, now something's here," then I might see the benefit (BTW, the extra tube uses the old "organ pipe's" principle.) However, the crystal silk cylinder CHANGES items into other items. When the tube is shown empty at the end, I think that's enough to deflect suspicion as the question remains "What happened to the silks?" |

You would put a lid over the prop, which covered the sides and top, then remove the lid and show the production within the clear casket. You could produce some live fish, with water. Or you could produce silks, sponge balls, etc. I don't recall the name of the prop. The method worked similar to a crystal silk cylinder, in a way, even though it wasn't a cylinder. And I am sure that someone out there has made a waterproof crystal silk cylinder to produce water / fish, even using the round design of the standard cylinder. I mean, if a bunny and a dove has been done (Dazzling Magic / Gene Elmo) in a crystal silk cylinder, its no stretch of the imagination to believe that someone has made a liquid capable version. I just found this link to an Ickle Pickle Crystal Fish Cylinder: http://www.clownantics.com/productionmagic.shtml - Donald.

I don't want to confuse the issue but aren't Crystal Silk Cylinders see-thru? Every silk tube or cylinder that I've seen that had the name "Crystal" at the beginning was made out of a see-thru plastic.
As far as I know, Ghost Tubes, Genii Tubes and Phantom Tubes are all solid tubes that are used for productions.

For what it's worth, I just bought a Crystal Silk Cynlinder from Dazzling Magic and it's the absolute best. It costs a little more than the competition but it's well worth the money! Very well thought out and very well put together. Nice, solid prop that I'm sure I'll be using for years to come.
