I have The Road Scholar book he wrote and find it to be a nice escape. Dick's voice is very apparent in his writing style. It's as if you're sitting right next to him as he tells story after story from his life as a magician. For that reason, I would say it has become my favorite book in regards to magic.

Do yourself a favor and get the companion DVD, which features live performances from various stages of his career. I watched half of it last night and it was just a pleasure to watch him work. From the minute he begins his act he is engaged verbally with his audience - sometimes teasing or making jokes, sometimes giving lessons related to the routines, sometimes reciting poetry - all while flawlessly executing classic effects with a gleam in his eye. There’s a terrific three ring effect in the first performance; it’s not explained in his book because, he has said, It was based partly on ideas loaned to him by Karrell Fox. It has the highest level of spectator interaction I’ve ever seen in a ring routine. And even his professor’s nightmare stands out, IMO. His false count is slow, smooth, and a perfect illusion. But his persona on stage is so humbly confident, he just comes across a very likeable, regular guy who loves spending time with kids. A total pro.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

I imagine that since this thread is a month old, some are wondering why I haven't "said" anything...
Well, when I was a young lad, I'm now 87, my mother told me: "When people are saying nice things about you, DON'T INTERRUPT THEM!" Thanks much for the kind words. I've been a bit under the weather for the past month, and, it looks like it's going to be a "stormy spring, too. Thanks for the cards of good cheer. I'll try to write something when a thread catches my attention. O
