After a SAM lecture, we went for a beer and Gregory Wilson folded and tore a beer coaster to find a $10 bill inside.
He said it was a promo by a beer distributor. Everyone in the bar started tearing coasters. Including the bartenders. Does anyone know the name of this trick or who sells it? Thanks!

This was an old Ken Brooke effect, published in his book Ken Brooke's Magic The Unique Years. Harry Stanley published it after Ken Brookes death. It is currently out of print, a few copies were found an in the past year have been available, most are all out of stock, with the quick search I just did.

Not much help if it is not available.
I was hoping for something useful. I saw a video tutorial about this a few years ago. It was recorded not too long ago. I just can’t remember the name. I was hoping someone knew. There’s a video on YouTube teaching this but no sources.

The name of the effect in the book is "Banknote in Beer Mat".
I guess you did not search for it, being you have not returned to the forum, it was not hard to find, it is in Easy Money Magic DVD by Wild-Colombini (he has passed away), which again is sold out, but thanks to Lybrary dot com, they carry it for download. Aldo Colombini credits the late Ken Brooke. https://www.lybrary.com/easy-money-magic......EALw_wcB There you have it, just order and download. I will say, it is very easy to perform and do. You might be a little disappointed at how easy it is, as it is one of those tricks you just do on the spear of the moment. Nothing you have to prepare at home and carry around with you. |

Bill,
I don't know why you ASSUME I haven't returned to the forum. I'm here every day. You know what happens when you ASSUME. I'm familiar with the working of the trick. Greg showed me, as mentioned in the OP. So, I won't be disappointed as you stated. I just prefer buying it from the creator. It's the right thing to do. I did search for it. I don't know why you ASSUMED that I did not search for it. Unfortunately I was using the term beer coaster rather than beermat and bill instead of banknote. Thank you for the reference. I appreciate it.

I meant you did not return to this posting, and let us know if you have found it, or having any trouble in your research.
If you do purchase it, it would be nice to read your thoughts on the effect. |

Bill,
Actually, I did return to this posting, "Daily" it's under "My profile" and I immediately see when there are new responses. There was no new response until the one you posted just today. I wasn’t having any "trouble in my research" as you put it. I was waiting for replies. There is no urgency. I did not see any point in posting that "I did not find it" I would have, however, posted if I had found it. I purchased your recommendation from Lybrary.com today and haven't had a chance to look at it yet. I hope I answered all your concerns. Feel free to ask if there are any other questions. Again, thanks for your Google searching.

I seem to recall seeing Greg Wilson teach this at one of his lectures.

Conus,
Thanks for the reply. Do you know if it was a Penguin lecture?

I purchased Aldo Colombini's "Easy Money Magic" from Lybrary.com
The "bill in beer coaster" or "Banknote in Beermat" trick is exactly the same as the one shown me by Greg Wilson. I didn’t expect it to be different. It’s pretty basic. It’s funny to watch the bar patrons and bartenders tearing up beer coasters.
