Sometimes it feels like they only sell cool toys.

I bought this on pre-order, which I never do, but wanted something for the Christmas gigs. As has been said previously U have to prime the ignitor with flash cotton which is hard to get where I live. It also stops this being a useful roaming magic device.gutted that this is not mentioned on purchase. It looks like U can just ignite flash paper alone. The ignitor is set back in the tip making this pretty annoying.

Should read 'can't' ignite flash paper alone. U need the cotton to be inserted to fire up, which will then light the paper

Paul James. Check out the one by Rick Haslett. It's been out for years and to my knowledge does not have these constraints. Go to www.ahouseoffire.com

I don't really want to amass a great collection of pyro gimmicks, so I'm willing to pay for reliability / minimum hassle. What would be best: Magic Smith's Pyro Kinesis 2, this new thumbtip, or something else? My head is always turned by new, so I'll value your expertise. |

Nobody can chime in? Going to pick up the ignitor pro after the holidays unless someone can provide a better solution. Would love to hear some thoughts...

A matchbook ignite is described in the instructions. I’ve not tried it. Flash cotton to flash paper to matchbook.

OK well I bought it and am finding it hugely difficult to get to ignite flash paper, it's presently a very expensive smoke machine.
It works perfectly on the cotton. I wonder if it just needs a high ambient temperature to help the paper get going. So a toasty room temperature. I need to use it on the street. I suspect they're all designed and tested somewhere warmer. US - California. I'd love some help if anyone has specific tips, it's getting a bit charred to return. Although this is very public! |

I've returned mine, it wouldn't ever ignite flash paper. I think the ambient temperture is too low.
I've now bought Magic Smith's gimmick. If you're doing matchbook ignites this is VASTLY more reliable, although the trigger switch is considerably harder to trigger than the thumb tip, but that's a matter of learning handling. |

I also found flash paper ignition unreliable. Have double thickness of flash paper in front of the hole might help
