The very first thing that jumps out at me is also the thing that lasted throughout the entire performance - learn how to use the mic! Take it out of the stand and use it. Take it to the action, not bring yourself or people to it. If there is a point that you need it so you can use both hands fine, then put in back in the holder, but otherwise, it is there for a purpose, use it. Anytime you ask someone a question or interview them, put it up to their mouth - learn and practice your mic technique. The mic is your friend and is part of a performance.
This one point alone will improve your performance ten-fold. Remember, your effects or tricks are only the tools you are using in your performance. A performance is much more than the tricks or effects. People will not be amazed (regardless of how good or skilled you are) if they can't hear or understand it/you. This is a good example of a couple of other threads being discussed here about the difference between just executing tricks or effects and actually performing. Please accept this as it is offered and intended - as constructive criticism to be helpful to you and others who may see and read this. Performing magic is about so much more than just doing a string of tricks together. It would be such a shame to put all of your time and effort into learning your skills only to have your performance fall flat or bomb because of other related components you weren't concerned with. As performers, we must practice, rehearse and become skilled in other aspects of a performance than just our material. We must learn and practice the performance too. Great job and thanks for posting this here and being open to thoughts an insights. Best of luck! |

I just can't follow because I can't hear it. Mindpro makes very good points. I'd love to watch a performance of yours that I could hear!

Those who think that magic consists of doing tricks are strangers to magic. Tricks are only the crude residue from which the lifeblood of magic has been drained." - S.H. Sharpe |
