I am 86 years old and tying knots to make my own loops is crazy-making. Now, I do the usual: length of elastic thread with a bit of wax at each end. put the wax ends together, and then, instead of trying to tie a knot I just make sure the threads are touching parallel, not crossed and put one drop of Cyanoacrylate ( Crazy Glue) where you would have put the knot, and bingo! You have a loop w/o the fuss. If you have about 1/4" glued together, cut off excess, and you're in business.

Does the glue create a bump?

Depending on how well you learn to do it, it is basically just a double thickness of thread for the 1/4" where you glued it together.
I use a double loupe ( great magnification) which attaches to my glasses ( handy for a lot of IT stuff) to trim off the excess with a razor blade against a sheet of white paper. I use Fearson's triple Vectra elastic thread. I assume other threads will work ok. Note: make a tiny "puddle"couple of drops of the crazy glue and use a toothpick to touch a tiny bit on the join. Pick up any excess with the corner of a paper towel. Don't just squirt the CyA on the join out of the tube of bottle! You can make a real mess what way. p.s. Wear eye protection. I've had 3 friends get a bit of that stuff in their eye. Trip to ER, $100. They tell you there's nothing they can do, you'll just have to wait 5 days before it lets go on its own! Experiment with glasses on! Magic Grandpa |

Best way to apply a SMALL amount of super glue:
Cut (just) the tip of the eye of a sewing needle off with a good pair of cutters. That will leave you with a tiny "fork" that you can dip in super glue. Only the eye will contain glue. I use several size needles stuck in a dowel for whatever amount of glue I need. This eliminates the "too much glue" messy problem. |
