After making a gaffed bill effect I have portions of bills with parts missing? My question is, will banks take back these "damaged bills" and replace them with complete bills? How much of bill is required for banks to replace it?

Houdini (?) I always new if anyone could come back it would be you <BG>
I have to use a quarter of a bill to make a gaff. Since I carry it with me and perform it a lot I have to replace it 2-3 times a year. I usually just use the remaining 3/4 bill when I am buying something and paying with several bills. Either they don't notice it or don't care. Either way, I get a dollar's worth out of the 3/4 bill. I believe that the bank pulls them out of circulation when they are deposited and credits the depositor's account for the amount of the bill. It gets returned to the treasury and they "de-mint" it. I think that means they burn it. Have you had a problem?

Haven't tried to return any to bank yet. I used a corner of a bill and didn't know if bank would accept it. One serial # is still visible.

How much of the bill is left? half, quarter? three quarters?
I usually just spend the left over part.

If both serial numbers are good, then they will accept it, if its partially gone, then you may want to try and pass it by a convenience store clerk.
Failing that, then you may have to bite the bullet and have spent whatever denomination that bill you cut or ripped to get that effect to work. |

I believe, technically it must be more than half Not exactly half, but more. That way there is no way the short half can be passed off as a "whole" bill. The banks may grumble, but I think they must take it anyway.
