As a relatively new person to this art I am often looking to acquire "classic" books on cardistry. Up to now, I have limited my searching for products such as out-of-print classic books, only to vendors that Google would show when I entered the name of a book as a search term. Using this obvious approach I could not locate reasonably priced copies (new or used) of THE CARD MAGIC OF NICK TROST, or THE SECRETS OF BROTHER JOHN HAMMAN. If used copies were located they were often at least $125-$150 each - too much in my opinion.
I tried a different approach - Googling magic shops in a specific area to obtain lists of vendors that would not normally come up in my searches, and check each one individually for what I wanted. In my case I chose magic shops in Illinois since Chicago has such a rich tradition close-up/bar magic. Lo and behold, I came across the Magic and Fun Co. in Moline, IL. The owner, Eric Dany was extremely pleasant and helpful. But most important, he had pre-owned issues of THE CARD MAGIC OF NICK TROST, and THE SECRETS OF BROTHER JOHN HAMMAN, for very reasonable prices, and in very good condition. The moral of my story - it may take work to go vendor to vendor, but if you have the patience and energy, it can pay off. Put another way, don't let Google decide when your search is over.

I completely agree. For me, I'm lucky enough to have a brick and mortar magic store in the nearest city, Scranton PA. If I need something hard to find, I ask the owner. He's been in the business a long time and has many connections. Nine times out of ten, he'll find what you're looking for. Sometimes he'll suggest something better. That's a very valuable resource. The internet offers many things, but it lacks that personal touch.

Books can be expensive. Check out "Close up Card Magic" by Harry Lorayne. It is definitely a classic and worth every penny. Shouldn't be too expensive.

C-UCM has been sold out for a couple of decades. But I've written quite a few other books. Go to harryloraynemagic.com, click on "Store" and then on "Magic Books" to see what's currently available.

Good point Ray and HaLo. I have TWO copies of C-UCM as well as The Magic Book, The Card Classics of Ken Krenzel, The Classics Collection vol. 2, and AND Finally.
I have definitely HaLo-fied a major part of my classic book collection. I'm still a newbie and have not read it all, but I make good use of these and other classics as references. Oh yes, and volume 7 of Tarbell.
