I love mnemonica, and as a result love the mnemonica marked Oyster deck. But why oh why are there no other mnemonica marked decks? I ordered a so called mnemonica marked deck from penguin, but all it was was their “marked cards” deck in mnemonica order.
I’m talking a bicycle deck with marks numbered from 1 - 52. I’ve since made my own, coloring in the pinwheel on the top left corner of a bicycle deck. Though it’s significantly easier to read than Blaine’s split spades marked deck, it still takes more than just a glance. Anyway, just venting. Love mnemonica. |

Nonetheless, I don't think it defeats the purpose, depending on what purpose you are referring to, of course. When using these in a trick where the Mnemonica number is the dominant piece of info, within the method, I simply ignore the value/suit marks. This helps in focusing on one area of the card, instead of multiple areas. However, if the trick calls for the value/suit as the main identifier (within the process) then the top left corner is a good place to see that info (given table/hand spreads, etc). I completely understand that an excellent knowledge of both card to stack number (and vice-versa) somewhat obviates the need for two separate pieces of info on the card. However, this doesn't present an issue for me, as I simply ignore one or the other - and both are invisible to the spectator. I guess the biggest drawcard of the DMCs to me is the clarity of the markings, versus most other decks I have purchased. I am sorry if misled you. It's a shame I am not in USA, as I would have happily bought these from you, given they don't suit your purpose.

It’s all good, it’s just a deck of cards. No real harm nor foul, but as far as the purpose, I wouldn’t need to use the mnemonica mark if the card is clearly labeled. On top of that, while very few laymen know about marked cards, I’d venture to guess that zero know about stacks. The great thing about the Oysters, is even if they see a 27 on it, I doubt they’d even realize the correlation. I’ll just be patiently waiting for that bicycle MM deck.
If you’re ever in the states let me know! |
