I'm trying to create an escape routine and was wondering if there's any sort of timed device that you must turn off in a certain amount of time or something "bad" happens. It can be something as goofy as an egg timer attached to a contraption that has a machine that will fling a pie in your face after a certain amount of time. Silly example but something to get my point across. This isn't a big stage production so it can be something on a smaller scale

There are any number of programmable electronic timers you can buy and then plug in the device of your choice.

I had a kid in my class that did that, he had a setup with a board filled with nails that would fall on him if he didn't escape in a minute and a half. After the show, we talked to his assistant(?) and he mentioned that the nails weren't actually attached hard, but instead could pop inside like a fake knife to avoid any possible injury in a worst case scenario.

How old was that "kid?" I think that is very impressive and probably not too quick or easy to build. Good job.
