Hi Guys,
Ive been professionally performing magic for a while now and been into magic for a long time. I have now decided I want to break the United Kingdom corporate market. I am setting up a website for it at the moment. The things that I want to start are: 1. Trade Shows 2. Product Launches (of any size including cars and vans etc which I can make appear - I am illusionist too) 3. Company banquets (table hopping as normal) Now, my questions are: 1. What books, Videos and DVD's are for sale on trade shows? 2. Who on the magiccafe board will help me out to get into this area of magic? I would much appreciate any help given, Thanks, TM |

About the only video I know about is Eddie Tullock's "REAL TRUTH ABOUT TRADE SHOW MAGIC". In VHS it's a two tape package that has a performance/explanation tape showing the tricks Eddie does. BTW he only does card tricks. An additional tape that is an interview conducted by Michael Ammar. In this interview Eddie talks about how to get a job.
It has recently been released as a DVD by L&L. It's good and informative.

I notice also that Robert expressed interest in organising an illusion tour in a previous post. A very ambitious project. The corporate field is also a very ambitious field which takes a lot of know how and experience.
I do applaud Robert's enthusiasm. I also seem to remember he said he was 17 years old. Methinks it would be wise for him to focus on one area at a time for the moment and it should be a simple one until he gets more experience than his age suggests. First master your craft, Robert. When you have done that it is time to progress into the corporate field. And touring illusion shows. And TV specials. And Vegas showrooms. And all the other ambitious plans that 17 year olds have. Slowly does it. You have plenty of time. Go the usual route of birthday parties, restaurant work and all the small time stuff first. Then go up the ladder slowly. Don't worry too much about money at your stage of the game. Worry about getting experience. Don't run before you can walk. I am sure you will ignore me. 17 year old magicians tend to. Best of luck anyway. |

Such great advice! Not to make a shameless plug, but that is pretty much my philosophy in the Success in Magic course.
Build your career slowly, starting at the bottom and moving up the career ladder as your skills improve. It would be a major mistake to jump into a market professionally before you are ready. Do a search on the Café and you will find a number of great posts on doing trade shows and corporate magic. One of the audio CDs I include with the course (or you can get it separately) is called Getting Started Working Trade Shows. It is for the magician who has little or no experience doing trade shows, but wants to get started. You can learn more at: http://www.success-in-magic.com . Look in the resources section. Break a thread. |
