I'm visiting California (LA driving to SF) for a week in August. What are some great magic shops to visit along my journey? I'll also be going to the Castle. Thanks!

I loved House of Magic in SF back in the day. Marina District. Used to bring my dog in. Awesome place! I hope it’s still there.
I’ve heard great things about Misdirections in SF. Never been there. I truly miss the good ol’ days of hanging out at Hollywood Magic and Dean’s Shoppe! If Johnny Ace Palmer and John George are performing tableside magic at southern Cal restaurants then make sure to see them. |

I haven't been to LA for four years. There is a magic counter in Hollywood Costume, good for emergencies. The only other shop I would frequent would be the Magic Apple in Studio City, its an awesome shop with lots of stuff, good staff and they even do lectures.

In San Francisco, you MUST visit Misdirections Magic Shop (thanx Marrs)...check em out on the internet! Behind the counter, Joe Pon will help you in whatever interests or needs you have. He can also direct you to any local shows, lectures etc. VERY friendly. ps House of Magic is closed, unfortunately. Lynn

Misdirections in SF. Grand Illusions in Sacramento (it doesn't sound like you're going that far).
Make sure to visit Magicopolis in Santa Monica! |

One time I had an emergency and required a replacement close-up pad, the misdirection website had them listed for $25.00 and when I went to buy it the store price was $40.00, I was told that if I wanted the pad for $25.00 i’d Have to order it online, the store price was $40.00 If you want to have a “look see” the store is small and parking is very difficult in the area |

House of Magic rocked! Senior Buma & Paul Chosse behind the counter. Buma Jr too who later took it over. Dr. Albo (Magic with Appartus) & Charles Schulz (Peanuts) were the silent partners in the shop. I was allowed to explore the back room of hidden goodies .. man, those were the days.

Holy Cow! I used to go to House of Magic a lot during college. I had no idea that Charles Schulz was connected to the shop. Did he have a strong interest in magic?

Sorry, I just saw your reply! I don't know what the extent of his interest in magic was or how he became a silent partner. I do know that Mark (Buma jr) has many Peanuts 1st editions inscribed to him, most if not all with hand-drawn cartoons.

Buma Jr was quite gracious as I didn’t want to leave my dog tied up outside the shop so he allowed me to bring him in while looking at stuff. Good memories from a bygone era.
