The email,
If you've ever wanted the power to stretch and bend STEEL like it was SILLY PUTTY, this new stealth device made of military-grade metal is a must-have. Built to last, and more features than a swiss-army knife. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/12182 Here's what the pros are saying.. "This is going straight into my act." -Morgan Strebler "This is a very, very clever gimmick!" -David Penn "I have been bending metal for most of my adult life. I am always looking for the latest gimmicks available. Mangle, by Christopher J. Smith, is a wonderful new device that allows you to do all kinds of metal bending. It was years in development and the final result is a thing of beauty and practicality. You can easily conceal the Mangle gimmick in your hand during performance and yet you can vanish it instantly after its use! Mangle is built of space-age military grade aluminum finished in an anodized black coating to last forever. Dee gives you all kinds of practical advice for bending (mangling!) silverware, nails, keys, etc., but as it is a utility bending prop, you will be coming up with your own routines as soon as you start experimenting with it. Believe it or not, the gimmick contains MULTIPLE built-in devices for all kinds of applications, plus additional gimmicking that will knock you out!. You will feel like you are James Bond and Q just gave his latest creation! Mangle is the premier device of its kind; the best of the best! If you are a serious Mentalist, you need to get this!" - Richard Osterlind "Before seeing this in action and being tipped the gimmick, I was not really into mental bending. Now, no metal is safe around me. This is the way to do this!!" -Jon Armstrong Check it out here: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/12182 Acar |

So a little overview just watching the majority of the instructions, from how to get ring it in/out and then going straight to the fork section as I don’t do keys and nails at this time.
The gimmick looks easy to ring in and out. It is not hidden in plain side like the Deformer. (Side note: I haven’t given the Deformer the time of day as most of my magic stuff is in storage while my new house gets built so maybe others can do a side by side assessment) The iinstructions are Okay, you don’t get too much of a flow of the timing of how these the actual bends should look in live performance. Found it a bit of a cop out that Dee goes to say, every performer is different and no hands move the same so you kinda need to find your own way to choreograph and hide the moves. Like a good card manipulator, okay......that sooo beginner friendly, especially when there are no live performances to help you at least find the beats of how such a move is covered. His 2 fork routine done at the end he goes over the basic overview of how the moves are done, when you hand the spectator the fork, then you do this move, his neck bend looked awful after he shows how to do the tine twist. But I guess it’ll fly. The 2 fork routine he doesn’t go over the neck/tine reveal that’s shown in the demo, hmmm. If can be kind of backtracked, I believe I did, there is only one way to get that twist in the neck so I am messaging him for confirmation. But it’s shown in the demo and not taught. At first look, looks like a great device, I can see why performers are raving about it. But I think Penguin needs to keep in some live performances, especially with devices like this where timing and cover is essential for any bending routine. I’m not over the moon how this is taught for the beginner cutlery bender. |

Thanks for the review. I really appreciate your honesty in pointing out areas of difficulty for inexperienced metal-benders.

I also have seen the video but have not taken delivery. It is a single piece of solid aluminum. No moving parts. It is anodized black as opposed to painted. I don’t know if that lasts forever. It has magnets on to stick to a hold out or use as a hold out. It has a little hole that you can thread a pull through. The entire device is hidden in your hand as opposed attached to a sharpie. It’s most purpose built use is as a “tine twister” which it looks like it will be perfect for. It will bend the end of a utensil. It does not appear to be useful for twisting a utensil. I don’t have every other bender it is suspect if you can do most of liquid metal with our bare hands and you want something to twist the times or put a sharp bend in the end of the handle this is it.

Got my Deformer out of storage and am currently playing with both.
So far the Deformer is much better, albeit more expensive, both do just about the same thing but you don’t have to ring in and out your Deformer due to nothing being palmed. May just keep both just in case I lose either one. I’m starting to do silverware bending as aside to just coin bending in my act so both are valuable to me. Both are for bending tines, and handles. The Deformer seems to be the winner for an easy twist in the neck. Other than that, for actual USE I’m trying to seek out what the differences are, can’t really find any. |

I agree with Blindside.
This is pretty much a toss up with a leaning towards Deformer imo. I do like not having to lever against a Sharpie with Mangle, but..love the hidden in plain sight aspect of Deformer. Thinking if I had to grab one as I ran out the door...Deformer would be it.

The little metal bending I perform is usually impromptu and gadget free btw, with rare exceptions.
Having said that, I still dream of some OxBender-ish device. Off topic, but god I love that thing.

MANGLE when used correctly will bend and twist a fork tine like no other gimmick on the market. It will twist a fork or spoon handle like soft butter in your hands. It has been tested with an 8 year old and an 80 year old and both have had great success with MANGLE. I created this so everyone, and I mean everyone can be Superman and bend steel. Liquid Metal was an awesome DVD, now you don't need the hand strength required in Liquid Metal to accomplish those bends. Also I get my forks and spoons from Sam's Club in bulk, regular diner type stainless steel. They are not the cheap thin forks and spoons, this is a real world metal bender. MANGLE does just that to forks and spoons it can MANGLE them. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/12182

The scorpion bend would be hard for that 8 year old I suspect.
It does make pretty easy/nice time bends.

All things considered, I’m still leaning towards Deformer.
Both are fine though

I own mangle. If there are instructions for how to use it as a “neck twister” I am sorry missed them. If the creator is someone else could reference where in the video I would appreciate it. Thanks
