Really pleased with how this turned out. I think it's a great companion piece to Out of Sleight.

Videoman, yes. Four of the routines are completely FASIDU. There are also a couple of impromptu packet tricks. You have to remove the cards from the deck first. I consider that impromptu but some people do not.

I gather that the 11 tricks on the Ultimate Self Working Card Tricks: Cameron Francis Edition video are all classic effects that Cameron has simplified and updated. The other DVDs in the "Ultimate Self Working Card Tricks" series all list the original tricks/creators individually in the ad copy, but that's not the case with this DVD. Presumably that's because this is covered in the video itself, and because Cameron has put his own spin on them.
Based on what I've read, I've tried to identify some of the original sources of the routines - although I'm not 100% sure I got them all right - is this list correct, and what are the remaining effects based on? - Seven of Hearts Trick (based on Paul Gordon's "Eight of Diamonds") - Automatic Poker (based on a Persi Diaconis effect called...?) - Three Impossible Things - Divided - Blackjack Buffet (based on Royal Road's "Poker Player's Picnic") - Counter Intuitive (based on a Paul Cumming's effect called...?) - Exhausted (based on Royal Road's "Tantalizer") - Exhausted Aces (based on Royal Road's "Tantalizer") - Exhausted Mates (based on Royal Road's "Tantalizer") - Fired Up Triumph (based on a Simon Black effect called ..., among others?) - Keep, Hide, and Giveaway (based on Jay Sankey's "Keep, Hide, and Giveaway") I also read a claim that one source for some of these tricks is Cameron's earlier video KAPOW (2012), a collaboration with Liam Montier. In a review of that DVD set, one reviewer claims that some of the content from KAPOW was reworked for the "Ultimate Self-Working" DVD. Quote: "There are tricks on here that have been cleaned up and re-named (for the most part) on the disc Ultimate Self-Working Card Tricks, which is a better purchase than this." Is there any truth to this? |

One other question for you Owen: would you consider the Ultimate Self Working Card Tricks: Cameron Francis Edition DVD to be somewhat of a sequel to the Out of Sleight DVD from Cameron? Both feature collections of self-working tricks that Cameron has put his own spin on, and revised and updated. Or is there something about Ultimate Self Working Card Tricks: Cameron Francis Edition that makes it different in its concept somehow, and more like the rest of BBM's "Ultimate Self Working Card Tricks" series of DVDs? |

I consider it a bit of a sequel to Out of Sleight.
So pretty much all tricks that people release are based on other that came before them. The intention here was not to update older effects. These are just effects that I've come up with. I give credit where credit is due but this is definitely not meant to be a collection of older tricks with a few minor handling changes. Also, I'm not sure what tricks from Kapow were also in the USWCT series. I don't believe any Kapow effects were self working.

Many thanks for chiming in, Cameron. It's always best to hear directly from the source that counts!
It makes sense that you see this as a kind of sequel to your Out of Sleight DVD. The other DVDs in BBM's "Ultimate Self Working Card Tricks" series all contain classic effects, whereas this is more your own work (naturally inspired by previous card magic and credited accordingly). I suppose BBM opted for that title for marketing reasons, to build on the success of their existing series, even though your DVD is really just the next in your own card magic DVDs (as listed here). Is there anything you are willing to share about the origin of these two routines, and what tricks inspired them or what they were based on? - Three Impossible Things - Mind reading, clairvoyance and a prediction all packed into one sizzling hot card effect. - Divided - A completely impromptu, impossibly fair revelation of two selections and a full deck color separation that will leave them gasping for air. |

Honestly, I'm not sure what exactly inspired those two effects. The methods behind them contain principles that have been around since the dawn of time. But I don't remember there being any one trick. plot, or concept that initiated the creative process of either one. Sometimes stuff just happens when you mess around with cards.
And to clarify, not all of the effects in the flagship USWCT series are old classics. There are quite a few contemporary tricks contained in the collection as well.

It's always nice to see creators who come here and answer questions. Cameron is one of them, and I really appreciate that. Thank you, Cameron!
