Hello!!
I wonder...What Can I Do with the Kellar Rope Tie? I mean, besides the typical gag of putting the hand out, do something, and put again into the Knot. Thanks!! |

Try doing it around your ankles and your wrists. Then quickly come out of them both to scratch your foot, etc.

Jonathan Pendragon actually did the funniest Kellar rope routine I ever saw. I don't know if his routine is available, but it would be well worth looking into.

Harry Blackstone Jr. used to present a version of the Kellar Rope Tie which was quite funny. I've seen the Pendragon one as well. If you research the acts of many of magic's greats you will see that the Kellar Rope Tie was in Dante's Show, Blackstone Sr., Carter the Great, The Great Raymond and more.
The Kellar Rope Tie has been used primarily as comedy for many years. However, as used by Harry Kellar it was part of his Spirit Cabinet effect and the audience had no idea that he got in and got out. So, to answer your question, you could do use the tie to present a Spirit Cabinet style effect. You could also use it for comedy with the 'gag' of getting one hand out. I have noticed that the onstage helpers often MISS the fact that your hand comes out while the audience thinks its funny. You might even try to use it in conjunction with Thumb Tie style routine, but instead of your thumbs being tied, it's your wrists. Hope this helps. Carnegie |

Hello... I left this topic for a while but I still would like to figure out what to do with it.
I saw the Jonathan Pendragon version. He does the usual out and in, then he stealhs the glasses of a man, and at the end, his hand and the hand's volunteer are tied. Nice routine. But due the fact Jonathan stills does that, I would like to get anoher ideas, different from his. Any other ideas? Anyone recalls how it was done by Blackstone or other magicians from the past? Kindest Regards, Alejandro. P.S.: I also would like to know some On liners, gag to say while doing the Kellar rope tie.. Thanks! |

Yes, that has been my routine as well. Sometimes I speak to one of the two volunteers on stage and say, pointing to the other one, he just does not get it does he? I also inter act with the audiences, walk up and down the aisle, let them see that I am tied up. I do some jokes about how it will be over soon, etc. The whole thing is to have fun with it.
