I’m doing a show for 7-10 year olds who asked for 30 minutes of card magic and 30 minutes of mentalism. I was wondering if you guys think it’s a good idea to bring a guide for how to say the cards, and just hang it up during the show, so they can say “Ace or Clubs” rather than “A of Clover”. Plus then they could understand everything in the show. Thoughts?

I would just explain and demonstrate the different pips and card values at the start. Maybe with some Jumbo cards. Then put them aside and proceed.

1 hour might be too long, though you could teach them magic to break it up. How many kids are 7&8 as opposed to 9&10? I would keep it simple and fun, especially for the younger ones. I wouldn't have taken the gig with those stipulations, I would do 45 minutes, and do the material that I do that I think will work for the group, and make changes as needed. Each group has it's own mood and personality.
