Christian, you are thinking like a magician IMO.

While it’s certainly true that this method is not going to win an award for being the most fooling and deceptive of all time, in general it does work surprisingly well and has amazed and perplexed many lay folks. I can see your point as to why you don’t care for it but if presented well it can fool and entertain people.

I think Vinny's Bucket List premise has a nice “hook” to it which creates interest.

Thank you videoman, I agree with you wholeheartedly that the premise is what makes this effect quite memorable for the spectator.

This is the 'Automatic Ace Triumph' by Kuniyasu Fujiwara. It is on a Kay-Mar DVD of self-working card tricks.

Hi art85y, I've just checked out Automatic Ace Triumph, which is really nice. However, it is completely different in effect, method and presentation.

Thanks,

Vinny

I could see doing this with oversized postcards. For the second prediction, it might be good to make it up on a copier.
I wouldn’t even worry about the 4 pieces butting up together perfectly. A little haphazard. This way it would seem less like a prop than a printed card.

I bought some postcards last year on a trip that measure 4” x 8”. A perfect size for this.

Vinny, in addition to travel postcards and photos, it would also be interesting to use images of paintings. Especially when you think about abstract art and how it could work for the reveal. It also lends itself to Richard Vollmer's Tapestry story and the idea of something being rolled or folded up. The other thought with the paintings is that some art thieves have cut them from frames in hide them more easily. I really like the idea of using paintings.

On Amazon, for under $10, you get get a variety of different sets of postcards.
Many of the ones I saw, had at least 20 in set. Here's a couple of examples:

Motown that's very helpful, thank you Smile I've just had a look for similar ones in the UK and they are relatively cheap, plus there are vintage ones too... feel like a new effect coming one! Many thanks, Vinny

I made a mistake, the postcards I bought are 5" x 8". They're a nice size to split into quarters.
