Hi. It sounds like it may be the Vernon unload move - it appears as if the double doesn't go back flat on the deck. Michael Vincent also goes over it in his "Classic Magic" set (vol 1).

Pop Haydn has written often that he uses the double lift "handling" that he learned from CLOSE-UP CARD MAGIC that I wrote a hundred years ago!! (Many others say the same.)

The only reference in The Gen that I could come up with is the following.
Volume 19, Number 7, November, 1963, 28 numbered pages - cover picture: Jack Gillespie From The Gen Desk - comments from Lewis Ganson Page 175 Card Magic The New Dai Vernon Double Lift - Faucett W. Ross --------------------------------------------------------------- I have no idea whether the DL replacement is mentioned or not. I do not own The Gen so cannot confirm. Perhaps someone can look it up?

Marsel, the reference Tortuga provided is what you're looking for. I've attached a photo from that article in The Gen. However, it's not the same as the Tamariz/Bruce thing. Vernon's got the basic idea but it's a bit more complicated because the double never seems to return to the pack. He uses it to deal the card to the table or rub it on the sleeve. In fact, in the article, Faucett Ross states, "The great weakness of all lifts is the fact that the double card must be turned down and squared up flush with top of pack before the single card can be further dealt with. In the present version, this weakness is obviated." Tamariz & Bruce's move might be thought of as a compromise: turned down, but not squared flush.

Oops! Doesn't look like the image attached above. Here it is:
The face-up double, resting on the pack, is gripped by the palm-down right hand at the front right corner and turned inward, end-over-end, until it's face-down. During the action the bottom card is unloaded on the deck (photo above) and the top is dealt to the table or rubbed on the sleeve. |
