Allan is one of my all time favorites. I met him in 1980 at the Desert Magic Seminar at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. Just purchased his latest set of notes, Card Theater. Great stuff!

How does the trick end?
I fell asleep after two minutes ... Seriously, he's definately good from the techniques point of view, but tooooo slow and boring ... You can see he's not one that has done magic to make his living.. Mark |

Ackerman's contributions to magic have been huge. I love his effect "Face-Lift" from Art of Astonishment.
With this one, I don't know: It's a great method, but the presentation is unspired and some moves look unnatural. Is all that additional work (compared to the many other slow-motion ace assemblies) really worth the kicker ending? |

I love Ackerman but ace assemblies have never been my thing, But that’s the great thing about Ackerman is he has so many great thoughts and handling on different plots you just pick out the ones that work for you. He is definitely worth ones time and attention.
I have his latest notes and they are great. I’m a big fan of The Splits and Technicolor Splits! |

I second Mike Powers' recommendation on the new lecture notes. It is a thick set of notes, everything is there in order to understand the effects and the methods. I also am a fan of Allan's and I like his thinking.
It's never crowded on the extra mile....

(excuse the hyperbole) but he really did! I can still remember his 10 card poker deal and Finally Matched as the standouts in terms of audience reaction. He loves doing what he does and it was infectious with his audience. Great memory! |
