Hi,
Those of you who perform for children and produce a rabbit at the end, what is your favourite production to use? What do you think about using doves for children's shows? Im slightly worried that doves could scratch children with claws and beaks etc. What are your thoughts? Thanks, TM |

Ive never had a problem with doves hurting the kids. I produce the dove and vanish it at the end of the show...this way the kids are not wondering where the dove is for the entire show. Also, since it vanished when the kids ask where the dove is, I simply say it's gone and don't have to wait while all the kids pet the dove. I couldn't tell you if a rabbit is better as I have never worked with one but correct me if I am wrong--they naturally sit still. This may make working with them easier. Just my two cents.

Maybe you could use a prop like the rabbit pan. or maybe if you have the budget maybe you can purchase the doves to rabbit/bunny illusion. and regarding zaubern's reply, yes rabbits do naturally stay still.

Hi Robert, I think weve performed in a competion together or sen you at a few convetions, I think you were doing a noddy theme show.
I always finish with a large mirror box really well made I used to use a ballon to bunny box after finding out the dealer was lying saying it could fit a rabbit but it was actually to a dove from ballon, so after lots of messing about chaging about the bag it finally fit my bunny but he hated the box when the ballon banged so I scraped it and got a mirror box. Lots of kids entertainer in the north west use doves in their kids show and I'm going to start soon. Maybe you shouldnt let the kids touch the birds just let them see. A clown near me has a roll on table that insted of the top bit being solid its like a window frame and a pole goes acoss for the doves to sit on. Hope this helps Matt |

I use a rabbit pan to close my show in the guise of making a birthday cake or whatever desert the B-day child wants. The children all throw in pretend ingredients to make the cake and instead of everyone yelling a magic word I have everyone yell" happy birthday + the kids name" The birthday child and their parents love the little extra bit of attention the child gets. Afterall it is a party for them.
I also produce a dove, some goldfish and an asian box turtle during my act. I have found that even though some children may have seen the rabbit pan trick before they still want to see it again on their own birthday, and actually ask for it. So much for the element of surprise, I guess they just like it that much. |

Good idea Magicjacket and welcome to the Café. How big is your rabbit pan?

It is actually a double rabbit pan. It's about a foot round. Sometimes I will do the first load as a prank saying that the kids weren't all in tune in saying the happy birthday part. They get a laugh out of the gag and then I have them say it again, in which they are all the more loud.

Excellent! I have a bunny box and bag but a pan may be needed later on. My rabbit although a dwarf, is still bigger than most of the props sold for "mice" size rabbits Ive never seen.

Yeah as long as the rabbit isn't huge he will fit in the pan. I've only had one that wouldn't fit, and he was enormous. But it also has a bigger effect to see a big rabbit that fills the pan than a tiny one. I must admit there have two occasions where the rabbit has peed in the pan. That sucks when you pull out this dripping wet rabbit. The kids don't let things like that ease by. They have all kinds of comic reactions, but It's still a bit embarassing. Luckily it rarely ever happens.

Check out Wolf's new balloon to bunny box.
http://www.wolfsmagic.com/Funhouse.htm I have a large doves to bunny production that I can use as a spring skunk to real bunny.
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

I just ordered Wolf's new Funhouse production box. Any tips on getting "Bunny" used to performing with the box? I'd love to hear it. Bunny has never been in a show before.

Keith HI, Put something around the box to protect the finnish then stick it in your bunnies hutch so he gets used to it and it becomes his territory, that way he will feel safe in it Phillip |

Yeah peeing in props is not kewl. My rabbit voided in the restroom upstairs and wife went crazy mopping the whole house. Finally when we discovered the location, I told her at least he used the restroom. He is still forbidden in the house now:(

I would say practise, if he goes in the ir more often it helps, also reward him for going into the box.

I use a rabbit in every show.
I often use a double load rabbit pan and do the magic BD cake with the first load being my rabbit Houdini. The second being a real cake. I definitely would not wait until the end of a BD show to produce a BD cake however. I always do it early in the show. It is a BD party after all. I also produce my rabbit from a hat if not a BD show. Sometimes I produce him from a pile of silks as well that are produced from a Sq circle.
