Has anyone done this, or any similar variations on the "mutilation/murder followed by magical restoration" plot?
Thanks! |

Terry Evanswood did a thin sawing where his assistants forced him into the box.
Harry Blackstone Jr. performed the Harbin sawing on reading rainbow with the host Lamar. I’m sure those aren’t the only 2 but it’s a start. |

Thanks, @thomasR.
Levar Burton? I might have to look for that clip. Probably a long-dead horse. Just reflecting on the misogyny and psychopathy that we used to take for granted only a few decades ago. |

My assistants do the sawing half on me in my show. It’s a nice change up.

Copperfield sawed himself in half in one of his TV specials, as did Criss Angel, both with a circular saw type prop.

Back in the mid 80's I did a piece with my (then) assistant Brenda where I introduced the following illusion - "The Phone Booth". I explained that Brenda would step into the phone booth and I would take 5 razor sharp blades and slice her into six pieces. As I was explaining this Brenda was standing behind me and beside the prop. As she "realized" what was about to happen she mimed NO WAY and hid behind the phone booth. The phone began to ring so I stepped into the box to answer it. Brenda jumps out from behind and slammed the door as the music began.
The audience would roar their approval so she hesitantly grabbed the first blade and stuck it into the box. As the audience again cheered she became more sure of herself and proceeded to take over and slice me into six pieces. There were lots of other bits of business and after taking her (huge) applause she reversed the process. At the end she flung open the door as the music changed into the theme from Superman and I would jump out in a full Superman costume change. It always got a massive reaction and in fact led to me being hired as a guest act on the Canadian Touring of Magic 'n Miracles in 1985 which then led to me becoming the host, illusionist and producer of that show for 25 years. It's been years since I've done that routine but I know that the roll reversal and having the assistant take over and take control really resonated with the audience. |

I designed a sawing for Bob Newhart for Larry, Daryl & Daryl to perform on his second show. Let me just say that he was NOT very flexible so a new method was called for.

We are currently making that sawing a man in half version of my effect. My version of the Audience Dismemberment.
We have two versions now. The standard smaller one, and the larger one to saw a man in half.. Built exclusively by Bill SMith from Magic Ventures.. I gave Nathan Burton permission to have a larger one made to make it possible to saw a man in half.. I asked Nathan why he would want that? He said this would be perfect for Corporate events. For sawing a CEO In half.. Most are men. If anyone would like my version. Contact me and I'll help you with the rights for my version and then I'll have you get with Bill for the build of the prop. This has been a good one for my career. I have been performing my version since 1999 It's a huge hit.. I have recently made even more changes to it............. I'm currently performing at a new theater in Branson. The stage is 56" off the ground. I have to do some reinventing once again to make it work perfect.. in case your not aware of my version. It has the electric cordless all saw The legs drop further than the original version.. Makes for a better visual opening now the table is only 2" thick I invented the Frame that goes around the front to hide the edge of the gimmick i have new Mi---- system New sign Sawing a lady on back diamond plate on the other side 4 large handles. and much more.. I bought mine from Bill in 1999 and made all the changes for my show only. Years later, magician saw me on youtube doing it and wanted my version.. I ended up buying as many used ones as I could find and personally rebuilt many and sold them world wide. Once I ran out of used one to redo.. I made a deal with BIll Smith to make them from the ground up. if you want one.. get with me on the RIGHTS first and then I'll hook you up with BILL. Thanks guys!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rj6p5uEE8eg
